Video studio 10 SE records then quits.

Post by Max Headroom »

Hello I am using a Diamond VC500 capture device Vid studio 10 came with this. When I attempt to capture from a VHS player, VS 10 will capture for a few seconds then a thumbnail appears. A no capture device message then appears. Then I must rewind the tape and restart. Still a few seconds and ...ad nauseum. I have changed every setting that I can find to see what will work. No joy!
As a side note, I have found VS10 SE to reset some of its video parameters after closing the dialouge box. This is intermittant. video quality will reset to 80% from setting at 100%. Sound will reset to 64kbps after setting at 224. Usually, this occurs after re-opening the video and audio capture dialogue to change a parameter after first setting it. what sometimes works is to make all settings in one session then do not open the dialouge again.
Dammit Scotty! I want Warp 10! Any suggestions? TIA (Thanks in Advance

Welcome to the forums!

Can we assume you installed the drivers and utilities on the installation disc which came with the device? I ask because I get the impression from the Diamond website that VS 10 SE is only meant for editing, not capturing. More often than not such devices come with a separate piece of capture software which you should use for capture, then open that video in VS for editing. So in other words, I would like to know if on the installation disc there is a separate piece of capture software...

Hello Max,

I also checked the http://www.diamondmm.com/VC500.php site and like what Ken said you need a separate program for the capture process. But if you like to use VideoStudio for the capture and edit, then you can try downloading the trial version of VS X4 at http://www.corel.com/trials.

I am using a VC500 capture device. I also have an 'Easycap'. I am trying to record from a VHS player to the video studio. I am able to view/hear the input from the VHS. I can configure the input, (except it sometimes resets itself to stupid settings).
I suppose someone isn't seeing the same Video Studio 10 that I have as there are Blue tabs across the top of the Skin, the tab on the far left lists 'Capture'. So I would say that the notion that Ulead Video Studio 10 does not 'capture' video is incorrect. Finally I would say that I am using a win7, 64 bit machine and a winXP pro, single core machine. I have problems with Video Studio in either.

1. See the following regarding EasyCap - http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40286

2. As Ken has already stated, according to the Diamond website the VS 10 SE that they provide is not meant for capturing. When a company includes an SE version with their hardward they tweak the software to work with it, and they apparently did something to the capture function. They should have included another program to do the capturing.

3. Forget about your Windows 7 machine. VS 10 was way before Win7, and was not designed to work with it.

If no other capture software came with your device you can try WinDV, a free product. You could also try Windows Movie Maker. Once the files are captured you can import them into VS 10, or any version for that matter, for editing.

Hi

I don’t think we were saying that VS 10 cannot capture, but that VS 10 may not be suitable for capturing from the device. It is recommended that you use the software provided with the device. That being said I guess you were provided with VS 10 SE as the capture software.

Ok
As far as I can tell the device is more suitable for capturing to Mpeg2 (DVD).

From Video Studio Capture-Capture Video

Format -DVD

“Options “ cogwheel-Video and Audio Capture Properties………..
Source Tab…Input source choose Composite
Audio-USB audio device

Capture Tab-Advanced will allow you to set the capture properties.
Keep DVD as the capture type
The bit rate at 5000 is quite suitable for VSH capture.

Does that improve capture?

Jeff
I think Win DV only works with Dv.Avi.
I tried my Ezcap device and Win Dv just doesn’t see it……..

Hello!
I am using either the easy capture and the software is 'USB Grabber 2.0'. This shows in the 'Source' window, if I use the VC500, then VC500 shows in the 'Source window'. Under capture options I can and do select; Capture audio, Capture to Library and Display Source Volume panel.
Under Video and Audio Capture Property Settings: Source: Video Composite, TV System NTSC, Audio: Either USB interface or VIA AC'97 wave, and I can selece 'Prieview audio with USB Device.
The color settings I leave alone except sometimes the brightness needs to ve adjusted.
Under 'Capture': I select customize, 720x480, Quality 100%.
Under 'Advanced: User defined, MPEG2, Frame rate 30, Number 3 in the aspect ratio setting. As I do not know the effect of selecting 'deinterlace' I do not select this. Constant bit rate 5000k b/s, Stereo sample rate 48000 at 192.

I have uninstalled and re-installed all software. Now I seem to be able to record for about an hour then either using Easycap, the VC500, or the capture software 'One Touch Video capture that also came with the VC500 the result is I receive an hour of recording then the computer hangs and must be rebooted to do anything. Could there be a 'timer' in this recording process? If there is, Could a Registery hack correct this?

Finally I received as part of the video packages VC500, onetouch video capture, Ulead Video Studio 10 SE, and with the Easycap, a software driver for the Easycap and the Ulead Video Studio 10 SE.

On the Windozs 7, 64 bit machine, only the VC500 (comes with 64 bit drivers) seems to work using the VC500 One Touch. The Ulead yields error messages and will not let me set above 300 under the bit rate in the advanced settings. I read another post mentioning an update for Vista and that Vista and Windoze 7 are similar enough that the program functioned. When I try to install the update, I receive the message: Cannot find Ulead software, even though I put the update in the Ulead folder and run it.

I must say further that ya'all have been much more helpful than the other two sites for trying to get something working. Thankyou
