EasyCap S-Video too bright

Post by S_A_Longhorn »

Just bought a new computer with Windows 7 & Movie Maker. Had a difficult time getting the EasyCap to work after a success time using it on my old computer that had Windows XP.

The issue I am having now, after installing the correct drivers, is the image is very bright when using the EasyCap s-video connection. VideoStudio does not allow me to change any of the video settings, other than NTSC or S-video/composite. I also was able to use the EasyCap with Movie Maker, but the same bright image came up in that program.

Now, if I do use the composite connections, the image looks as it should with normal brightness and color. Of course, the loss of quality if visable between s-video and composite.

I'd appreciate any help regarding how to correct the brightness when using the s-video connection. It is possible the EasyCap s-video connection is corrupt, as the image and cords are working fine from the various setups I've tried.

It most certainly does allow you to change not only brightness but a whole range of other visual parameters - In X4 click on the 'FX' just to the right of the screen and you will have access to a whole range of 'Filters' , one of which is 'Brightness' but there are countless others - drag it down onto your video then use the options panel to adjust the brightness (or exposure or whatever) to obtain a correct result. The filters are accessed in different ways in previous versions but are there.

Is your outputting machine, I'm thinking you might be using a VCR, an S-VHS machine. If it isn't, that'll be why the birghtness alters as s-vhs carries the luminace/chromiance in a different way to composite and you need to match the connection to the machine in use.

Hi

I have just tried my Ezcap device using S-Video, I did not connect the audio cables.
I did not have a problem selecting the Colour correction, although they looked good.

Press the Options cogwheel and select "Video and Audio Capture Property Settings".
Composite connections.
I do not see any difference in quality compared to S-Video, both being as good as the other. I normally use Composite.
I checked the device using VS 10, X4 and ArcSoft ShowBiz DVD, all ok.

The original Easycap devices came bundled with Video Studio 8 or10, if you are using this software then be aware it is not fully compatible with Windows 7.

You will be aware by now that there are some fake/poor products, most have problems, although your appears to have worked successfully in the past.
