Guides crashing

Post by libbya »

When I use guides my Paintshop Pro x3 becomes unstable and crashes quite a bit. It is random and usually happens most when I hold the guide for longer than a couple of seconds when trying to position it better. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know of a fix?

Yup. This is a well known bug. There's actually a good couple of pages on another topic about this very bug. It's also not overly consistent. Some don't experience it, others experience it right away, others need to wait a few seconds and still others need to wait a whole minute before this bug shows up. And it's apparently been around for a while not just in X3.

We hope one day a fix will be found. Though some have reported that it no longer crashes after installing the fourth patch. It didn't fix it for me, but if others have no problems there is hope for some. So at least make sure you have installed all of the patches. If you are already up to date and still experiencing the bug then I do know of one workaround.

The only work around that I know, move it quickly. The most consistent agreement I've seen, and I could be wrong here, is that it only happens when you first create the guide. So if you quickly drop the guide in and then pick it up again to adjust it a bit more accurately you should be able to avoid the crashing. But like I said I could be wrong. The work around then is to make a series of small movements to get it in the right place.

As far as I know I have the most up to date version. At least that is what the built in update checker tells me. Thanks for your responses.

I'm on a trial version of X3, and was soon to make my purchase, but I have also encountered this guide crashing bug and can reproduce it consistently.
It's very costly in man power to keep losing your work like this.
Have found the Corel product to be superb so far... shame this may put me off my purchase.

Have you tried the work-around (drop the guide immediately then pick it back up) to see if you can avoid it?

If you can't and you haven't purchased X3 then I suggest trying back when the next version comes out. Just a hunch but they've seen enough complaints about this they might finally have a fix. If you're willing to come back after this little fiasco that is. XD
