Sound is skipping in VS#3
I've been using VS #3 for about a year now and enjoy it however just resently I have run into a SOUND problem.
On the 2nd page (editing) I can play each Clip with full sound just fine when I click on "Clip" but when I click on "Project" the movie is fine except the sound skips. All the Music I load in the film works fine just the sound for the mov. file. thanks for the help

Welcome to the forums,
What version of QuickTime do you have installed? It has been mentioned that using an older version seems to fix problems with MOV files in VS.

Hi
There have been some issues with Mov audio.
One poster described it like a “heart beat”
For me it first appeared after installing the “patch 3” although I think its marked as Video Studio Pro X3 Service Pack 2.
I have re-installed X3 a few times and each time I apply this patch I get the same problem
I have just tested my program and are having the pulsing problems.
Only in project playback.
I may do a re-install just to see what happens>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
Same problem here. Sound skips when watching project but not when watching individual clips, working with MOV files which is the only unfortunate format my Canon dslr outputs. Tried a reload, but without the SP2 patch, the program crashes in short order. Tried update 3329, but sound skipping persists. Splitting the audio tracks works for previews, but rendering (to mp4) halts before finishing.
I already switched from a WinXP machine to a Win7 to get VSP to recognize MOV files, now this. Two full days invested in a 4 minute video, really an effort to get set up again with video using MOV files. I gave up on video about six years ago for pretty much exactly the same kind of hassles, now it looks like I will have to do the same for another six.

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
Hi 321
I have been through the process of re-installing about 5 times now.
Each time I run the program without the patch I have no problems, the program seems to work ok, no crashes.
When I apply the update patch provided automatically with the program I get the dreaded pulsing audio.
It affects all types of Mov video I have to hand including Canon 7D video.
Since my last post I have installed the patch and the problem is back.
I may try to create a video screen capture showing the Audio’s sound mixer in action.
As I say re-installing without the patch does cure this issue.
If you are experiencing crashes, try installing an earlier version of Quicktime, this has been known to cure some crashes.

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
Trevor,
Does Create Sound File make a clean WAV file of the audio, or does the skipping/pulsing persist in those files as well?

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
Hi Jeff
I believe that the rendered file is ok, the problem is with project playback,
yes you can play in clip mode but if you play in project to see all edits you get this strange beat, heart beat.
I intend to do a video screen capture to show the playback problem.
by the way originally the problem also affected X2, after applying the patch to X3.
Edited
Yep just rendered a Mov to Dv and that plays ok

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
That would point to the QuickTime Player being commonly used by most all versions of VS. Maybe Corel needs to do something differently, like use different QT Player versions with each version of VS. The downside of that is duplication, and if it would be possible to have more than one version of QT Player installed.by the way originally the problem also affected X2, after applying the patch to X3.

If that’s the case then re-installing QT or using different versions would cure the problem.
The only way I can repair is to uninstall X3 and re-install without the patch.
The original Patch 2 did not give the problem, it was after Corel replaced this patch to patch 3, even though the downloads refer to patch 2 its different from the original.

I have just tried X2 and seems to be working without problems????????????????????

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
My thought was that if a clean WAV file could be created you could replace the bad MOV audio with the new WAV file. I know it's not the ultimate solution, but could be used as a work around (?).Does Create Sound File make a clean WAV file of the audio, or does the skipping/pulsing persist in those files as well?

Re: Sound is skipping in VS#3
Hi Jeff
Thanks for the workround ideas.
I did try rendering to another Mov type but these still showed the problem.
I had thought that it may be the type of mov compression I was using, but have created a few with X3 only to show the same problems.
Its not a big deal for me as I rarely use mov’s. and when I do it’s a short video usually uploaded to You Tube.
Converting the originals to MP4 may be the best solution.
But there are a few posters that do work with mov’s and are having the same problems.
I did approach Corel Support back in the days of X2, not impressed.
Fortunately X4 seems to be ok with Mov files.
It would be nice to solve the problem.
