Video Capture Hardware

Post by sludge49 »

I am using VideoStudio 11 for my capture software. Can anyone tell me what capture hardware is compatible with my software. I have Dazzle DVD recorder plus and Hauppauge USB-live-2. VideoStudio 11, will not work with either of these devices. When using the Hauppauge hardware I get the following error message: 15023:4:2, unable to switch to capture mode. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Dazzle recorder is made by Pinnacle, and Pinnacle is notorious (ummm... "well known" might be more diplomatic) for locking their devices to their own software so that other brands of software will not work with them. I am not sure about the Hauppage device. But in both cases, our usual advice is to use the software which came with the device to carry out the capture. Then open the captured video in VS for editing.

As Ken says, capture devices come with software and it is always best to use that.
If you want to look at new hardware, then items like the canopus products are excellent in quality, can be used with most software, but come at a price.

The video capture software that is bundled with Hauppauge USB- Live2 is, WinTV v.7, which is not any good for capturing from a VCR, because there are virtually not manual settings. You can choose the quality (good, better, best, ect), and that is all. Pinnacle VideoStudio 12 works but Corel VideoStudio 11 does not. I am using Pinnacles product to capture and Corel's to edit and burn, but I would rather use Corel's VideoStudio 11 to capture. Thanks
