Hi Steve

Whilst installing the program files are created in the temp folder Corel VideoStudio Pro
There are 1.035 Files and 91 folders totalling 785 Mb or 823,648,256 bytes
The installation pauses for a user input, at this point I copied the temp folder to my desktop, then continued the installation. I wonder if it will install from these files??

After installing X4 the temp folder containing the Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\14.0.0.001 is completely empty.

Can you download the trial version again just in case you have a corrupt file?

I am uninstalling X4 to see what if any files get left behind, unfortunately I have no problems installing.

I would have thought that cleaning your pc of all Corel files would allow installation. We must be missing something.

Maybe the System Restore is looking favourable?

Hi Trevor,

Re-downloaded the installation file, ran it, got the same problem. The Install Wizard sure looks like it moved over all needed files to the temp directory but after that I again got the flashing boxes which I am pretty sure were blank and then the cant find Init.htm message.
I never get the pause for user input. Checking the Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 folder shows only 1.55mb with 3 files, even though I saw the setup wizard move hundreds of files to subdirectories off of that folder. Trevor, I much appreciate all the effort but unless you have a flash of inspiration, why don't you forget about this problem of mine. I also downloaded a competitors free 30 trial and was hoping to compare the two but I guess my choice has been made for me. If I could even get System Restore to work for me (every time I have tried it on this PC it teases me for 10 minutes by going thru the shutdown and restart and then comes up and says it failed) it probably would wipe out the other Trial and then what would I do.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Hi

Well I certainly get many temp files, I copied them to my desktop then ran them to install X4 which worked a treat.
--------------------
System Restore may be failing due to your anti virus software.
Some makes don’t allow changes made to their files, in which case you can change the option via the virus program. "Allowing changes of the AV system files".
Then System Restore should complete.
I has happened to me quite a while ago but cannot remember which maybe Norton Mcafee or avast????
ut like you i am not a lover of System Restore....Good luck Steve

Trevor,

Thanks for the tip on System Restore. About the 2 anti-virus softwares you mentioned. Up until a couple days ago I was a user of Norton, however my system started running extremely slowly and I traced it via some System Configuration settings to the Norton software. I uninstalled it and installed AVast. So I have used both of the "guilty" packages you mentioned. I guess I could turn off the Avast and then run System Restore. Not the most fun thing to do, but at least a last resort. Take care.

I am having the EXACT same problem. I've no idea what happened, I've owned Corel Win DVD pro for ages now, then it interfered with some other software I purchased, and I get the same message. I own a hard copy of the software, and every time I install it it keep flashes 'loading' all the time and just won't install.

Won't install because EN\Custom\Init.htm is missing.

What on earth is going on? Is there any way you can restore this to get it to install?

I have had similar problems downloading VideoStudioX4 after a bad de-installation - 2 problems to be exact. The program wouldn't install and the other was getting the message - "please wait while Window configures common" - when right clicking on drives "c: d: etc"

Both problems were solved for me by using Corel's "VS_Cleanup.exe" for VideoStudioProX4. You will need to search for it in Corel's help pages. It worked first time for me on Windows XP Pro.
