I note the mention of Protexis - and have looked on the web for information about it. I must say I am a bit surprised that houses like Corel use it, and DO NOT tell us - is there not a danger that it could be removed by people who look at softwares and say "where's that come from - I never installed that".

So far as my PC is concerned, I see that there is a PSI service .exe file in the common folder, so VSProX4 presumably should have not have ceased to run properly because it was missing. :?

But I had so much hassle with trying to get VSProX4 to re-install that I have given up.

Luckily, there is a reasonable Window7 laptop in the house, and I have been able to set that up to handle the programme.

hi! im on xp pro.
I have the same problem as u guys.
"please wait while Window configures common" when right clicking on whatever drives "c: d: etc"
i have to press cancel

and when i try to install VideoStudio ProX4: this error message can't find this file: "C:\Documents and Settings\PsychatoR\Local Settings\temp\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\14.0.0.001\Land\EN\custom\Init.htm"

but when i watch the extraction "when trying to install", Init.htm is exactly at the good directory. and after that error message. oopss suddently all extracted files are deleted. that is maybe normal. but that it cant file Init.htm, theres no reason for. very strange.

i had a virus before that .. i removed it. some other programs had that problem too, i uninstalled them and reinstalled and no more problem now, except a bad uninstallation for Corel VideoStudio Pro X4.
i made a search with "corel" and deleted all corels. and runned ccleaner for registry.
still have the same prblem.

ill verify in regedit now.
did u guys have find solution to fix that major problem? tx a lot ..
btw sorry for my bad english.

dam, i fixed it myself lol.
after 2 days searching all over the net! noone seems to fix this .. I MADE IT ALONE! lol

ok i explain what i did:

i found another installation problem in java.
i uninstalled it with revo uninstaller. deleting all the things.
reinstalled it but i dont think it was the problem because same probleme was there with corel videostudio.

after that i verified once again in "windows install clean up" software. and i realized "common 14.0.0.342"
i noticed "14.0.0.342" was the same version as my Corel VideoStudio.
so i uninstalled allllllllll others softwares with the (14.0.0.342) from "windows install clean up".

i rebooted "common" problem was gone finally.
and i could finallllly re-install Corel VideoStudio.
Rebooted but still .. When i clicked on my desktop icon "Corel VideoStudio", it won't open.
So i uninstalled it once again but from "revo uninstaller" deleting all things.
Rebooted.
Reinstalled once again Corel VideoStudio.
Rebooted.
WORKED! :)

It was just REALLY bad uninstalled.
Had to reinstall it to well uninsall it :).
and reinstall it lol.
hope it fix your problem too.

I have been having similar problems to those mentioned in prior posts. I downloaded the trial version of VSPro4 on Dec. 24. It worked fine for the first few days and then it wouldn't load when I tried to run it. A message saying I should reinstall came up. I tried to reinstall and that froze when it was only halfway done. After that any attempt to reinstall or uninstall resulted in a message such as
"The Installation Wizard encountered a problem while trying to configure your software. Could not access file:
c:\users\username\appdata\local\temp\1d8a3e2b-d44f-490d-8777-183c177f6fa0\setup\setup.msi - the system cannot find the path specified. would you like to continue?"

I have tried to uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller and have removed any reference to protexis that I could find in the registry. The message I now get when attempting to install is "The system cannot find the file specified C:\Users\.................\Custom\Init.htm. Any suggestions?
Also when I try to send a question to Corel Tech Support it says my case has been created and then directly below, that case creation has failed. When I check for my case, there is none. Thanks.

I'm afraid Tech Support does not support the trial version. Silly, but there you are. It has been a long standing Corel policy.

Yes, Yvonne Chuang is indeed one of the Product Manager, I think it is even before Corel acquired Ulead and like what she suggested the best way to fix this is to call the Corel Support and I would suggest that you ready the order information of the product like where you purchased it, order number and serial number.

Before calling, you may want to perform a clean reinstallation by removing the VS X4 following these steps http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... dio-Pro-X4

Then redownload or use the original disc to install using a new Windows username with admin access.

Thanks Ken and Abiel. Unfortunately I have managed to uninstall VSPro just enough so that neither Control Panel or VS_Cleanup recognize it as an installed program. I also don't see any link to redownload the trial. From one weeks use I really liked VSPro 4 and was thinking about maybe just dowloading a purchased version but then I thought that might have the same installation problem. Do you think that would install properly or is it anyone's guess? Thanks.

Hi Steve

As far as I know the trial version is identical to the purchased version, the purchased version is provided with additional files to complete the installation, Contents Files etc. But the initial installation should be the same.

Some users have found that by creating a new User Account then installing Video Studio was successful.
The user account could then be removed.

There has also been reference to turning off UAC

I must admit recently there are far to many posts regarding the installation of Corel products

Thanks Trevor,

Dumb question. I saw that post about setting up a new user and tried that but the new user (an administrator) was set up with a barebones desktop and no access to the installation file. Any idea how that could be done?

Hi Steve

I resurrected an old lap top running Vista to create a new account, are you sure you created the new account to Admin, you should have access to the files, maybe security only allows access to personal files??

I created one to the standard user, not admin, just to see if installation works.

As a normal user I was unable to access the admin files so used a usb memory stick.
But saving the installation files to the Public file structure should also allow access.

The installation was successful, the UAC did pop-up to request the admin password, other than that it worked.
I could run the program from all accounts.

---------------------

If you cannot re-install have you tried System Restore, something I loath doing.

Trevor,

Much appreciate your effort here and so am sorry for being dense but since I also hate System Restore I want to make sure I get this right. As my regular user I copied the 800+ meg installation file to the Public directory. Logging on to my temporary user I am now able to see the file. Do I just fire up the installation from my temp user? Where will all the files go? Thanks again.

Hi Steve

Yes just double click the instalation file.

The trial version file is called VSX4_Pro_TBYB.exe and is approx 800 Mb

Double clicking this file will start the installation, first files will be extracted to a temporary folder, after completion will be deleted.

The actual installation files will be saved to C:\Program Files\Corel these will remain to run the program.

If you have trouble with the normal user account, change it to Admin.
I was just interested to see if the program would install without being Admin.

Trevor,

Doesn't look good. Was able to run from my temp user as an admin but setup still failed when it couldn't locate init.htm. Will have to decide if this is worth a System Restore which anyway usually fails when I try them. Thanks again.

Hi Steve

Strange that it is looking for a HTM file, I associate that with an internet web page.

After uninstalling X4 did you delete/clear your Temp folders.

As I said (Double clicking this file will start the installation, first files will be extracted to a temporary folder, after completion will be deleted.)
If previously the files were not deleted then they may cause problems. Not sure exactly where they are located.

But from Computer Right click C Drive –Select properties-then clean up.

In the meantime I will boot up the old vista laptop to see what I can find.

Trevor,

Deleted the temporary files, ran it again and got the same error. I then checked the newly created temp files directory structure and saw that it only goes as far as the following - C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Local\Temp\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\14.0.0.001\lang

The init.htm file it is looking for is in a directory \EN\Custom off of lang. I have 3 files in my lang directory but no subdirectories. Don't know if this is a clue or not. Also, after the status bar reaches the end and it appears that setup has moved all the files it wants to move, I get flashed on my screen with an empty medium sized window followed by a small completely white box. These 2 alternate flashing very quickly about 10 times immediately before the error message is displayed.
