VSPro4 problem

Post by garywp »

I've been using VS Pro 4x for about two weeks - having upgraded from 3x. Suddenly today I've received a message "Error: 4 - Corel VideoStudio files have been damaged or modified. Please resinstall your original source." Has anyone experienced this? I have not changed anything, other than shutting down my PC last night and restarting this afternoon. I've tried to reinstall with no success. It always states that some file or folder is missing.

Open Computer Management, Right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, select Manage. The following screen will open, locate Services in the Left pane. Then scroll down in the right pane and locate Protexis Licensing, it may also be Protexis Licensing V2, then see if it is started. If not click on the Start link.

Thanx for the quick response. However, I did try as you suggested with no change. And it is Protexis Licensing V2. I can't seem to even reinstall the program from scratch as it is now looking for a 'english' folder

Is the typo error? The error code is 24, but not 4.
This message meant the Serial number is illegal or expired.
Is the VSX4 purchased from Corel eStore?

Not true. The error code is definately 4. since then I completely uninstalled 4X. Reinstalled 3x and finally got that working again. Tried installing 4x again, but with no success. I now get the message: The system cannot find the file specified. C:\Users\ my name \ AppData\Local\Temp\Corel\VideoStudio ProX4\14.0.0.001\Land\EN\custom\Init.htm
I have downloaded X4 a couple of times now, thinking maybe that would work.

This is a purchased, registered download, as were the previous versions.
This is NOT an illegal copy.

I would forget X4, except that I saved a couple of projects in that version, and now they won't open in X3.

Hi Gary

I do not know what has happened to your installation, I’m sure you will get it fixed.
You could try a System Restore, something I don’t like using, but it may be worth a try.
Or contact Corel support for Clean Install details???????
Maybe Abiel Corel NA can be of assistance, the only person on this forum that works for Corel.

Otherwise if you e-mail me with the X4 project files (.VSP)
I will try to save them as X3 versions, and send them back?
Should work?????????

No quite Trevor, Yvonne is more of a Corel employee than Abiel. Yvonne is one of the Production Manager's for VS, and has been since VS 11...;)

Hi Ron

Thanks for the info, I stand corrected
I was not aware that Yvonne was a Corel employee.
Besides not being able to find any of her posts, she seems a little invisible, maybe I am looking in the wrong place.
However I did I find quite a few for Abiel

Delete the entire "C:\Users\ my name \ AppData\Local\Temp\Corel\VideoStudio ProX4" folder. You may need to set your explorer to show hidden files. Reboot and try your installation again.

I've found that a lot of junk gets left behind in the "tmp" folder by VSX4.

Hi

Good idea tinybeetle.

I usually re-name the folder rather than deleting it, just in case i need tyhe original?

A new folder will be re-created when you launch Video Studio.
Be aware that your entire library will be restored to its default state.

If you wish to keep the library content, which may or may not be causing you some problems, then use the Library Manager Export function to save the library.

Its in a different location using XP

I too have had the error message: "Error: 4 - Corel VideoStudio files have been damaged or modified. Please reinstall your original source". I have had this message since the first time I tried the install i.e. I was never able to get X4 running. This is different to garywp who started this thread who, it appears, got X4 up and running and then lost it again.

It has only taken a mere 4 weeks of spasmodic email exchanges with Corel support but here, finally, is the solution that worked for me (and I quote):

Can you please remove VideoStudio again please?
Then create a new Admin User Profile in Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... er-account
You need to log in under this new user account and disable User Account Control in Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... -on-or-off
Then you should install VideoStudio Pro X4 as administrator by navigating to the setup.exe file, right-clicking and choosing the option “Run as Administrator”.

Hope this helps.

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I got a fault message when opening VSProX4, which I had been happily using for seversal months - "setup file damaged", or something similar. So I uninstalled and sought to reinstall - then started to get this Init.htm missing message. Used RevoUninstaller, since couldn't uninstall in any of the more ordinary ways as "setup file" was damaged, I was told. Removed EVERYTHING in this way. Downloaded the exe file again (for which I have paid over £50) - tried installing from a different user, as mentioned by recent post - got a message after a few minutes' unpacking and apparent installing, saying "The path to the language folder cannot be resolved" - installation cannot be completed.

NOW when I boot up, I get a Windows box message telling me (for the first time in many, many years of Windows use) "please wait whilst Window configures common" - it is seeking something in a VSPro folder, which has of course been removed as a part of the total cleanse of this Corel (ex ULead)software. I have to do multiple cancels to get the box to go aaway - it cannot be removed by any other means, since there is no target file for it to locate.

Oh dear - should I have hung on to my pennies & stayed with VS11, I wonder.

Problem is, I have projects made with the "better" newer version that seem unwilling to open in the older one. Shall I buy a new computer and start again - would only cost me a few hundred quid to get VSPorX4 going again, perhaps.

I do hope this'll not be seen as a rant - but it is again somewhat disturbing to find thses VS softwares presenting such imponderable problems. Has anyone hit on a wholly reliable solution?

Is it possible to pay a few extra quid and get a CD copy ???

I think what happened in your original error message, was somehow Protexis Licensing had been disabled. The only thing that needed to be done, is to enable it by going to the System Services. Check to see if you still have Protexis Licensing installed. If you have any other Corel software that uses this, it should still be there. VS 11 does not use this anti-piracy service.

To check to see if Protexis Licensing is running, right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, select Manage from the menu. Then navigate to Services & Applications, which expands the tree. Click on the Services, and scroll down in the right-pane to locate Protexis.

Did you purchase the Full (or upgrade) ESD (download), or purchase an activation code for a TBYB (trial) version? Full versions use a serial number, where activated TBYB use an activation code, they are different. Did you purchase download insurance, which provides you with the opportunity to re-download the program for up to two years?

Hi, PeterPink

It was me that posted the Corel support service quote just before your posting.
I just want to check that you followed the steps as listed.
To be fair to Corel (who were horrendously slow getting to the solution) the solution is more than just creating a new user.

Otherwise I bow to the knowledge of Obi-Wan-Kenobi (aka RonP).

Good Luck!
