VSX4 Video Studio stopped working

Post by dpat2000 »

working with jpeg's crossfade transitions and mp3 music, at random times and no paticular clicking of items in timeline video studio stops working and has to close.
I am finding this problem very agravating as i am spending more time restarting project and have to save everytime i make a change.
Has to be a solution to this or the purchase of this product is not worth anything.

Hi Doug

Two things come to mind, both of which you have mentioned..........

Video Studio has issues working with Progressive Jpegs, usually Jpegs are saved as Baseline. Right click an image and select properties/Jpeg tab.

MP3 audio, you guessed it, again some users have experienced problems,
I noticed that bit rates above 192 caused problems.
Having said that I still use MP3.

It is recommended to convert to Wav.

All my jpeg's are baseline and bit rate of mp3 is 160.
I never had this problem with earlier versions of VS.

Hi Doug

Did you try using Wav audio?

There has been some problems relating to QuickTime.
Reverting to an earlier version of QT has cured some crashes.
I do not know if X4 is affected, certainly earlier versions had problems.
Maybe others on this forum can advise, but it wouldn’t harm to try!

Even though you may not be using Mov files Video Studio needs QT to run.

yes i converted the mp3 to a wav file, and so far so good, now i have a different problem which is corel crashes quite often when using video fx transitions. I know corel is not affiliated with canopus and is probably frowned upon in troubleshooting

Well unfortunately, you are definitely not goling to get much help at all with Canopus VideoFX since it was written a long time ago and Canopus (or whatever it calls itself today) discontinued support for it also a long time ago. I did use to have it working under Vista with VS 11.5+ and X2, but I haven't really tried it under X3 and X4, although I have now installed it -- though in answer to another question here. But others report that the 3D effects in particular do not seem to work with X4, just the old, standard 2D ones. So you may have to be careful with what you are using.

I can confirm that going back to an older version of Quicktime ver 7.60.92.0 has solved my problem with crashing on VS Pro X2. I have recently had to backup my Iphone using Itunes. Because itune only works with the latest version of Quicktime I had to again install ver7.69.80.9. When I later tried VS ProX2 it again starting crashing both in editing and sharing. On unistalling Quicktime ver 7.69.80.9 and installing the ver 7.60.92.0 all was well again - so far.
Is there a patch for VS Pro X2 to work with the lates version of Quicktime?

Hi Robert

Thanks for the conformation of the Quicktime fix.
Unfortunately I do not think Corel provided a patch for this issue otherwise we would have mentioned it. Unless you call updating to X4, then its new and I cannot confirm that this version will not suffer the same. We will find out when a newer version of QT is released.

Anyhow its good news that you have stopped the crashes.
