File may be write-protected?

Post by jedda007 »

Originally was using Vs10 when most of my discs would only get to 58% and go no further, threw away many discs thinking they were the problem. Have now upgraded to VS11.
I found your forum and saw that you could get around this problem:
The solution is to get hold of a small (free) utility called FixVTS from here:
http://download.videohelp.com/FixVTS/home.htm
I've used this and its great, rips straight through the dvd.
But now when i use in VS its ok til i trim my vid and then try to save. It says The file may be write-protected. Error number 15033:0:2
It won''t let me save. Is there anything i'm not doing or need to change. i didn't protect the long video on the dvd, i haven't changed any settings.
Its a bit of a mystery, i don't know what to do from here.
Any ideas please.
Thankyou, Jedda

Hi Jedda

And welcome to the forums.

If your DVD are not copy protected then Video Studio should be capable of importing the discs video. I would try using VS 10
Can you confirm that your discs are not protected?
As you have found other programs are available to rip protected discs.

Using Windows Explorer---You could try copying the discs content to your hard drive.
Then rename the VOB files to use the extension MPG.
Import the files to VS as normal way, this approach usually works but can have problems with the odd file.

Hi Trevor, thankyou for the welcome.
When i put the vids through FixVTS, they started as vobs from the disc and ended up as an mp4 on my hard drive. Thats what i'm working with now.
They are definately not protected.
Is there a difference between vs11 and vs 10?
Do i still need to change the extension (given this new info) to .mpg
And is that just a matter of putting .mpg after the name of the vid?

I had all my VS down pat before the discs decided to stop at 58%

I just found this about the error:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... eprotected

Lots of reading and figuring out what it means.
I'll have another look tomorrow arvo.
Cheers, Jedda :)
