Corel's mysterious upgrading policy

Post by Leif G »

Most software companys give their customers a chance to upgrade
if they have a late version of their program. But not Corel!
I have been trying to understand their reasoning,and here is what I think.
They(Corel sales)say:"people who have our older programs are more hesitant
to try something new and expensive,so let us give them an offer to upgrade
to a slightly lower price.
Customers on the other hand who already have the latest version of our program,
they are people who have shown that they want the best,and they will buy the new
version anyway,so let's exclude them from the upgrade".
And that's why I who have VS ProX3 are not eligable for an upgrade to X4!
I can't help feeling that it's a bit unfair.What do you think?
My suggestion is that Corel should instead ask customers: "Do you have two
or more of our(editing) programs,then you are eligable for buying an upgrade".

I'm puzzled by this also..
To purchase the upgrade version, you must own a previous licensed version of:

* VideoStudio® X2 or higher (Standard or Pro)
* Corel® VideoStudio® Express
* Corel® Digital Studio™

Note: Upgrade eligibility excludes trial, academic, OEM and Not For Resale (NFR) versions. Corel products not listed above are not eligible for the upgrade version.
Could you possibly have overlooked the or higher?

I will say that this has dramatically changed from several years ago. I see where users of VS 11 and older do not qualify. For a long time if you basically had an earlier version you could get upgrade prices. There's still some that are using such versions, and for whatever reasons, choose to hold off on upgrading.

I am puzzled too.
I should perhaps have asked Corel first, but I have been through some upgrading problems
before as you can see from my post in DVD MF from Dec 2010.
That's why I became a i bit uncertain how to read the information.
It says "X2 or higher" yes, but then it also says "Corel products not listed above are not eligible
for the upgrade version."
Any way,I have downloaded the trial version of X4 and hope the improvments are worth
an upgrade.

But surely "X2 or Higher" - includes X3 - so X3 is listed as eligible for an upgrade.

Hello Leif G,

Like what Ron quoted from our web site, as long as you meet those criteria then you are eligible for the upgrade price. Just make sure your old version is registered. If you want to talk to someone to better understand our upgrade policy, I suggest that you call our Sales Team at 1-877-582-6735 (Mon - Fri 9AM - 7PM EST).

I wish I could remove my post,but that's too late now.
This must be a result of sitting up late at night,glued to the computer.
