Hi,

In the /Programs/Ulead/Ulead VideoStudio 8.0/ folder there is a vstudio.pdf.

It is the manual in PDF format.

It shows how to set up the computer for capture and all the other steps as well.

OR - click on the question mark in the top right corner of UVS -- then choose "Ulead VideoStudio Help" -- in the new dialogue box under the 'Contents' tab click on the + sign next to "Capturing" then on the + sign next to "Capture Video" - - now click on "Importing from DVD/DVD-VR " -- read the information in the right hand pane.

What SPECIFIC problems are you having ???

I recommended this program to a friend of mine. I have VS9, but he purchased VS8. He asked me on the phone how to import all video from a DVD disk (his own archives created on DVD recorder - not commercial movies). I thought I would guide him when we do each step at the same time, I on my computer and he on his one. Unfortunately it turned out that he does not have some menus that I do in VS9. Therefore I posted the question here. So please what are the steps to import all video (not a single scene) from DVD disk to VS8?

steps to import video from DVD in VS8

Okay, uhill, I've just been doing this with my own DVDs.

Put the DVD into its tray. Open UVS8. Click on File > Insert media file to Library > Insert DVD/DVD-VR...

You are asked to identify the drive which holds your inserted DVD. The files on the DVD are shown: Select Video_TS and click OK. The MPEG2 file or files will appear in a dialogue box: Select the one or ones you want, and click Finish. UVS8 will then put those files into the Library. From there, they can be dragged to the Timeline, edited, etc.

Alternatively, they can be inserted straight into the Timeline instead of into the Library.

Thank you Keith. That's exactly what I needed to tell my friend.

Following the steps, I had no problem importing the video. But there's no sound! What am I missing? Thanks. This is in VideoStudio 8.

I have the same problem, in fact was just about to post a question when I saw this topic.
Video imports fine whether it is imported directly from DVD disk, or .vob files stored on PC, but there is no sound.[/quote]

The DVD was most likely encoded using AC3 audio, which UVS 8 doesn't support without Ulead's AC3 plugin.

My suggestion would be to upgrade to UVS 9, the price difference between the plugin for UVS 8 and the upgrade is minimal, and you'll get numerous other worthwhile features and enhancements.

Thank you THoff, I wondered if that might be the case.

Have been playing with DVD MovieFactory 3, and when importing from DVD it has a warning message that it does not support AC3.

I have had a look at VS9 trial version but am waiting till it is updated/patched before purchasing so that some of the bugs I have read about will hopefully be dealt with.

SE and trial versions of Movie Factory 3 do not support AC-3.
