Here's a diagram showing the DVD Menu Navigation, and structure. There's an entire tutorial called From Camcorder to DVD with VideoStudio. While it does use older programs, it is still applicable today.

Thank you Ken, Ron, Black Lab and co. for your help and patience. I think that the topic has been exhausted and I do have a better understanding of how things work in the "share" step of producing a dvd. All the best.
