When save a picture the image will be limited
When I want to save a picture when I am done I allways get the announcement: Due to the limited file disposition, the file which will be saved will be a limited image. (I am Dutch, so it is a rough translation). How can I avoid this?
I have an other queation:
When I edit my images than they allways become smaller. The go from 4 mb to 200-800Kb. I don't want this but I don't know what to do.
Thank you for your answer.
Ingrid

Re: When save a picture the image will be limited
I'm probably going to screw up this explanation but it's pretty simple.
The file format you're saving to, the type of editing you've done, and the settings for the file format you're saving to effects all of the problems you're experiencing.
If you're using layers and want to preserve these layers you need to save to a format that supports layers. PSD (Photoshop Document) and PSPImage formats are ones that support keeping layer information. Best to save in a PSPImage format as that's Paint Shop Pro's default format. The warnings about the file format usually come when you try to save out an image and Paint Shop Pro wants you to know that it's going to essentially perform a "Merge All" function flattening everything and keeping all of the changes before saving the image out. You'll find this with image formats like JPEG or PNG or BMP. Those don't support layers in Paint Shop Pro and so Paint Shop Pro let's you know that it's going to get rid of all of the extra layers and such.
Now the size of the image is a result of compression settings for the file format you're saving into. So let's say that by default you're saving as a JPEG (JPG) file this will give you the warning about flattening the image but because it's a lossy format, and the default settings might be lower than the original image, you'll get a smaller file when Paint Shop Pro tries to save. To change this you have to change your save options.
In the Save dialog there is a button in the bottom right corner of the dialog named "Options" here you can set the compression level for the image. A low compression will result in a larger image size and better quality. A high compression level will result in a smaller image size and lower quality as more information is thrown away to make the image smaller. So go ahead and change the "Compression Factor" down toward highest quality lowest compression. And that should help you out.

Re: When save a picture the image will be limited
Hi Ingrid,
Can you describe how you save your images to get such a big difference in file size?
You can answer in Dutch if that helps, but my computer Dutch is non-existent (I left Holland 50 years ago), so the answer will most probably be in English

Re: When save a picture the image will be limited
Hi Ingrid,

Just FYI,
Since this is an English web board, whenever there are posts using other languages, please post the English translation as well. That way others may also have the benefit from them.

Re: When save a picture the image will be limited
Hehe, you are right, I am not plotting to do anything dastardly.
I mentioned to Ingrid that the explanation offered by LeviFiction was likely her problem.
I also suggested that Ingrid should set her Save compression very low.
I have mine set to 1, although I believe not a lot happens below 6
Then I suggested that Ingrid should always (I do, I am sure many others do) make a dupicate of the original image, close that and work on the duplicate, just to be on the safe side.
As an aside:
One thing I have got out of all of this .. I have discovered that my English comes a lot easier than my Dutch

Thank you very much for your reply. I have tried it and the solution was good!! My pictures stay in a larger resolution.
Perhaps until next time and thanks again.

Just kidding. My knowledge of Dutch only extends to a very few specialised words like Grolsch, Heineken, Amstel...
