I am having difficulty generating files with VS X3. The app works fine opening the source files, editing and preview playback. Preview replay has audio and is very smooth. However, all generated files have no audio. The files I'm working with are recordings using the Hauppauge HD PVR controlled by BeyondTV (V4.9.2). Those fies are MPEG-2 Transport files, having the extension *.tp. VS does not recognize the TP extension - which is very frustrating. When I change the extension to M2T, they import fine.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
VS X3 doesn't encode audio in edited file

Try creating an audio-only WAV file, and re-import that audio back into your project. WAV files are generally foolproof... If Video Studio chokes on that task too, try using SUPER (FREE!!!) to extract the audio to WAV.
Did the Hauppauge come with any software for conversion to a different format? (I assume the audio in the M2T file is Dolby AC3, but I don't know why it's causing problems.)
What format are you trying to generate? Is the output-audio stereo or multichannel? (A different output-format probably won't solve the problem... Transcoding problems are usually "from" problems, rather than "to" problems, but it might still be helpful to know where we are going...).

Re: VS X3 doesn't encode audio in edited file
I always use a small freeware program called HDTVtoMPEG2 to convert my transport stream .tp files to program stream mpeg, though otherwise still in the same high def format. Always worked for me...

Yes...it came with a conversion app...but seems to be only for mobile devices and gaming consoles. And yes, the audio is Dolby AC3.DVDDoug wrote:Did the Hauppauge come with any software for conversion to a different format? Do I need to transcode first to be able to edit. Can I not just edit the M2T file directly? I have tried to generate many formats...but none of them end up with audio.DVDDoug wrote:What format are you trying to generate? Is the output-audio stereo or multichannel? Thanks Ken. I'll give it a try.Ken Berry wrote:I always use a small freeware program called HDTVtoMPEG2 to convert my transport stream .tp files to program stream mpeg, though otherwise still in the same high def format. Always worked for me...

When I try to add a file in HDTVtoMPEG2, I get the message "WARNING: Could not find a channel!"
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Sorry, no. I don 't have the computer on which I use HDTVto MPeg2 operating at the moment, but does the program's Help suggest anything?

Re: VS X3 doesn't encode audio in edited file
It should stay in sync. But editing might be more difficult, unless you re-combine the video and the "new" audio into a new (different format?) before editing. And, I can't promise that it will stay in sync. Sometimes, the audio & video can go out of sync for no apparent reason, even without extracting the audio... Which is what inspired my "signature" below! Will I run the danger of the audio track being out of sync?
You have already old us you can't edit the M2T directly without loosing audio. We are suggesting that your odds are better with a different (or perhaps just a different file or a file encoded with a different encoder.)Do I need to transcode first to be able to edit. Can I not just edit the M2T file directly?
Yeah.... That's what I expected... As I said, it's usually a "from" problem... Apparently Video Studio can't convert your file from it's current format (or re-encode to the same format), and you'll have to convert to a different format with a 3rd-party program, or simply find a different video editor that works with your files.I have tried to generate many formats...but none of them end up with audio.
FYI - SUPER can also (hopefully) convert the audio & video to many other formats. I've never used HDTVtoMPEG2, but if you can get it working, I have feeling it's easier to use than SUPER. SUPER has many-many format options... Even their website is confusing... I think you have to click through 3-pages just to get to the program download! When I try to add a file in HDTVtoMPEG2, I get the message "WARNING: Could not find a channel!"
