Is there a complete list of new features & changes in VS X4

Post by perfection »

Is there a page or ref that details the new features of visdeostudio X4. I must know before i upgrade or even download to trial.

Can one thing be confirmed? ...that version X4 DOES NOT SUPPORT MKV video files True? Very disappointed if this version does not.

Understanding that my current version of VS (read X3) does not support mkv, what format is the best to convert an mkv file to a format supported by VS and which converter (as in lossless) would do the best job?

To find out what features and file formats it supports go to Corel's webpage for VideoStudio Pro X4. Just click on the tabs to go through and learn more about it. I can tell you that sadly it does not support MKV. Where do you get video that uses the Matroska container? I would look at the codec being used in that container to determine the file format to convert it to.

Beat me to it Jeff.. :)

Here's an intrestin link: http://www.rersoft.com/mkv-file-format/

Seems to me that a reasonable solution for ANY s/w developer is to incorporate the most popular 4mats....which mkv files are currently not. It also seems that during the next major rewrite (upgrade to 64bit) X64 Pro should be extensible and offer plus pak support. Those who want/needed support for things like this could purchase and plug-in.

Of course this assumes there's a large enough audience for Corel to develop such plug-ins.
Or maybe better yet Corel could offer an API so that others could write/sell their own plug-ins.
Corse the prollem w/this is they'd have to document the API and that takes more time than writing the software.

I think you need to very careful about telling the whole world what you are doing perfection - as far as I know what you are doing breaks the copyright laws of just about every civilised country in the world - in that not only are you changing the content and format of the DVD when you copy it - but you are then selling the DVD so that you no longer own it - it cannot be said that you are making a backup just for your own use if you do not have the original.

I'm sure some of the other posters around the world can explain differences in their own particular country - but here in the UK copying and then selling a DVD is illegal and I think that is true of many other countries.
