Can't install HDR Efex Pro into PSP Photo X3

Post by tommost »

And Corel support says that plug ins aren't supported... but they suggested I ask on this forum to see if anyone has managed to do it successfully.

I install HDR Efex, point it at the ..../Plugins folder that PSP calls out, but PSP always says "no plug ins installed".

Has anyone made this work?

Thanks,

Tom M.

Hello Tom,

You use the plug-ins provided its compatibility with Adobe Photoshop files. The most common plug-in filename extension is .8B*. You can choose to limit the use of plug-ins to those having the .8B* filename extension, or you can choose to use plug-ins having any filename extension.

Here are some steps that you can check on how to ensure that the plugin was properly installed and enabled on PSP X3.

To enable plug-ins

1. Choose File Preferences File Locations. The File Locations dialog box appears.
2. From the File types list, select Plug-ins.
3.Mark the Enable plug-ins check box.

You can also load plug-ins with any extension
- Unmark the Limit Loaded plug-in files to those with an .8B* extension check box.
- Open the file in the plug-in before it opens in Corel PaintShop Photo Pro
- Mark the Allow file format plug-ins to request pre-filtering of support file types check box.

To add plug-in locations

1. Choose File Preferences File Locations. The File Locations dialog box appears.
2. From the File types list, select Plug-ins.
3. Click Add. A new blank item appears in the folder list, and the Browse for Folder dialog box appears.
4. Navigate to the folder you want to add, and click OK to return to the File Locations dialog box.
5. In the Folder options dialog box, mark the Enable check box.
6. Click OK.

If all else fails then you may want to contact the Nik Support at http://www.niksoftware.com/hdrefexpro/usa/help/, specially if you purchased the program. You may also want to try the HDR PhotoMerge of PSP X3. You can visit http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/762122 for more information on the HDR Photo Merge of PSP and this tutorial http://abielonline.blogspot.com/2009/07 ... p-pro.html though it's for PSP X2 Ultimate but still applies on PSP X3.

I did all of that... a couple of times... and it didn't work.

I've used Nik plugins before successfully with PSP but haven't used HDR Efex Pro. Normally I do things backwards to how you're doing i.e. Install the plugin to its default location and then point PSP at it (File > Preferences > Plug-ins and add the installed location to the list with 'Use Sub Folders' and 'Enable' checked)

EDIT: you might also want to check the other menus in PSP X3 besides the Effects > Plug-ins as looking at the manual on the Nik website then if you were using it in Photoshop it appears under a different menu option than other Nik filters like Color Efex Pro ('Automate' rather than 'Filters').
