First picture line is B/W noise - why?

Post by Poul T »

I (try to) use a Terratec Cameo Convert 800 to convert my VHS videos to digital format, and Video Studio 8 for capture/processing. However, the first - uppermost - picture line seems to be black-and-white noise, like the 'snow' on an untuned TV. This appears regardless of whether I capture to DV or MPEG format.

I am very new to this, and rather clueless. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It suggests to me that you are not actually capturing anything - can you see your video in the preview window of UVS while capturing ???

Thanks for responding!

Yes, I do capture, I can burn a DVD and see it on my TV, I just have this annoying line above the picture all the time.

That's normal for analog captures -- you're seeing video that is distorted by the retrace process of analog video. This is normally hidden on your TV by the bezel around the visible portion of the cathode ray tube, and if you play back the video you captured on a TV, you won't see the fuzz.

If you want, you can crop the captured video to eliminate the fuzz.
