Failed to open the MPEG encoder [2000:1:1]

Post by metmot »

This is the error message I now get when trying to render an MPEG video in X3. As I stated a couple days ago, I bought X3 in February of 2010 and have used it to edit and render video on a daily basis since that time. So what changed suddenly? One thing and one thing only. I downloaded and installed X4 trial, which does not have this problem rendering MPEG video. Somehow X4 has left X3 incapable of functioning. Is this a strong arm sales tactic? Now I have to buy the thing? Anyone have any idea what gives here? X2 and X3 have never had any trouble coexisting as I have been using X2 to author DVDs the whole time I've had X3.

So now I own a broken program that never worked quite right to begin with and my options are? Say the hell with VS and learn another program? Buy X4 under extreme duress? Hope someone can help me fix this problem? Uninstall X4 and hope this helps? This is sucking more and more at every turn.

John,

Your trying to render an MPEG file? Is this a SD MPEG-2? What are you rendering from? MPEG-2, DV, HDV, WMV? While testing VS X4, I never experienced any problems with VS X3. One main difference is that I do not have Win7, however some of the other testers did, and did not report it affecting VS X3. In fact the version of VS X4 that I currently am using is the TBYB. I just ran some tests in VS X3, rendering MPEG-2 without any problems.

There should be some others that are running VS on WIn7, maybe they can provide more insight.

I have tried rendering several projects from a simple avchd clip dropped in the time line to a photo slideshow with music. One thing is for sure, the error is cropping up doing the exact work flow I use regularly as my media and methods have not been altered from the type of projects I do all the time. Basically I'm making an MPEG 2 clip to use with building a DVD later. Suddenly X3 does not want to do the jobs it has always done and that is the error message I get. I don't know what other information I can provide that will help you guys help me trouble shoot. Really nothing has changed on my computer or my methods and I have never seen this error message prior to installing X4. It's obvious to me a conflict has been created but I'm not savvy enough to figure out what it is.

Sorry. Can't replicate it. As you will see from my own specs, I use Win 7 32 bit. I set up a quick project in X3 using AVCHD files and then selected Share > Create Video File > DVD and accepted the default properties. In due course, a new mpeg-2 file was produced which plays properly in both X4 and other players. I still have both X4 and X2 installed on the same computer. X4 definitely works, though I haven't tried X2 since the point of this particular exercise was X4 and X3 interaction, which, as far as I can see, is fine...

I wonder if something else might have somehow or other removed either the codec itself (in which case, install it or something similar again) or else access to it, though I cannot for the life of me think what...

Hello John,

As you can see my specs, I'm using VS X3 and Win 7 64 bit, but I can create video and cannot recreate the problem that you are having. Have you tried downloading and installing all the updates for VS X3? If not you can download all the updates here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 0460544373
