Hello wstagner,
Not sure if this will help but here's a KB article with answering the "Unspecified error 5.0.0" message that you are getting. You can visit: http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/762615 for the article.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Thanks, Abiel....already been there and done ALL of those things.
I'm not the only long-time VS user having this issue, and as noted in previous posts burning to DVD from X2 works fine.
There's some sort of bug here and all we users can do is tell you when it happens and how to dup it.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Abiel, FWIW, I'd buy the upgrade TODAY if there was a resolution to "our" burning problem.
It makes no sense it works for some users and not others.
As I stated earlier in this thread, I installed X4 on my laptop this morning and it failed idetically to my desktop machine.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Walt and Abiel,
I too have done all of the things suggested by Abiel regarding the unspecified error 5.0.0.0. One thing that may be of interest is that both of us have ATI Radeon video drivers. I checked with HP and I have the latest version, but they seem to be customized to my hardware. ATI advises only to update video drivers from hardware vendors of our machines. so I guess I can't do anything further with video.
As a note, after uninstalling X4.
I just did a fresh install of X4 with:
1) No network attachment
2) Anti-Virus program disabled.
3) Application Event log clear before installation
4) Received a "Successful Install"
5) Event log shows same success - No event errors
Launch Application X4
Result: I still cannot burn a DVD with Menus.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Just found another problem in the burn module.
I created an mpg file in X3 from 5 mp4 files recorded on a Samsung stand. def. camcorder.
In X2, I successfully imported that file, created a main/chapter menu AND successfully burned a DVD.
I open x4. Insert the same file to the timeline. Share/Create Disk/DVD.
prob 1: it adds the clip to the burn module as "untitled" rather than the filename as in previous versions. Why would this behavior be intentionally changed?
prob 2: Add chapters/auto add: ONLY option is add chapters at fixed intervals. This clip consists of 5 chapters that X2 will find, no problem.
I'm now going to create a DVD file from the individual clips in X4 and see if behavior changes.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
My display adapter is a PCI card installed in a motherboard slot, so I was able to go to the ATI/AMD web site and update my driver. However I did that a coupla months ago.
In win7 control panel driver update, it tells me I have the most current driver.
I did the same check with my sound driver. It's current also.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
If I create a DVD file from my clips in X4:
1)it takes approx 15 mins LONGER for the same clips on the same machine as it did in X2.
2)the created file name displays in the burning model as "untitled" unless I rename it. Previous versions will display the clip's filename, not "untitled".
3)It will now correctly allow me to create chapters by scene OR time interval.

X4 Menu Burning test
Step 1:
If I create 4 chapters in my little graphic menu test; then rename them in the Edit, Chapter Point Menu 1) Black 2) Red 3) Blue 4) Green; then Save the project, everything looks normal and performs as expected.
Step 2:
If I then choose SHARE>CREATE DISK>DVD then; press the CLOSE button on the 1st screen that appears (to save the project at the 1st authoring stage), without making any changes at all, the project is saved and I am returned to the Edit window, where the Chapter Point Menu now shows double timestamp columns only. My former renamed chapter names of 1) Black 2) Red 3) Blue 4) are all gone!!

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Craig -- Re your Step 2, as I have already said somewhere above (or if not here, then in a very recent other thread), that automatic save when you close the burning module is common in previous versions of VS. And in all of those cases, with the same result too. None of us here knows exactly what is saved, much less where it is saved to. We have asked many times, with no answer from Corel. Everyone assumes it is saving the project file, but it seems clear that it is not. The only way you can save those chapter names is by doing a *manual* save once you are back in the Editing module.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Ken, I've tried the manual save and that doesn't necessarily cause the names to be saved either.
X4 has problems with that, moreso than prior versions.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
That also sounds very strange. I just happened to be playing around with the name saving aspect of the burning module yesterday, in relation to another query on this Board. And it worked every time, the way I described above, using two different projects with two different kinds of video in them, and several name changes... Bizarre indeed!

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
VS X2 does not work peachy. Most of what you've pointed out is correct. However I've also found that VS X2 will do the same thing as VS X4, as far as replacing the chapter names in the editor, with double time stamps. It will hold the chapter names so long as you don't close VS X2. I went through the process using color clips, of creating chapter names for each one, Red, Blue, Green, Brown. In the burn module I created a main menu and a chapter menu, renamed each chapter on the menu accordingly. I closed the burn module, and looked at the Chapter Point manager, noticing that the chapter names were intact. I then closed VS X2, saving the project. Upon re-opening VS X2, with the same project, I looked at the chapter point manager, and noticed that it had the double time stamp, and the chapter names were gone.
If Corel could fix the long standing problem, with chapter names not being retained from the editor to the burn module, it would take care of these anomalies.

Re: X4...Can't burn a DVD
Not peechy? ok....I guess I can have a little luck sumtimes...can't I?
I certainly agree w/you on fixing longstanding bugs like this and not getting Corel CLARIFICATION on what's being saved by the burning module. What would that cost Corel to provide that info you've been asking for for years?
Unfortunately fixing bugs is tuffer and not as exciting as writing new software or new features.
I work as a consultant for a software company. Those who do the development feel it is beneath them to fix their bugs (that they created). Those assigned to fix the bugs are the equivalent of software janitors/trashmen. I doubt is diffrent with Corel.
I'm not defending Corel. The only thing companies understand is $. Corel obviously monitors this 4 um and should see the dissatisfaction many who've paid $ have with their product because of annoying little bugs.
Currently I'm not feelin the love for an X4 upgrade.... paid or otherwise.
Like many here, I felt burned by the X2-->X3 upgrade for the lack of integrated burning just to name one issue.
