Can't Capture with VS X4

Post by suppah »

Hello,

I just bought VSx4 but I noticed it crashes as soon as I try to capture :(

my camera: canon HV20 -firewire connected
my OS: windows 7
I already:

uninstalled, re-installed VSx4
turned off/pc - camera
connected/disconnected camera

since I installed vsx4 I can't capture in vs x3 too :(

I already sent dump file to support. Waiting for their answer.

Anyone has already solved a problem lije that and maybe can help?

:(

The HV20 is an Hdv cam is it not?
As you have win7, you might find swapping to the legacy fierwrie driver might help, certainly the first thing I'd try

I already did it about the legacy driver since I had VSx3.

UPDATE:
I noticed that after many tryes that does not allow me to capture with vsx4, I RESTARTED PC and tried to capture in VSX3 without opening vsx4 (and closing it obviously once it does not capture) VSX3 can capture.

So now I can capture with x3 and edit with x4... is not a solution yet... I hope in some advice from you or support :(

Actually, that is a solution. I always capture with v10, edit with X3, author with v10, and burn with Nero. I do it that way because that's what works best for me. Many, many on this forum do not use VS exclusively.

But have you checked to see if X4 has changed it back?

Yes, I checked and was the legacy one.
Anyway I also tried to reload legacy driver.

Yes Me too I use many different programs to have better results, but I think that CAPTURING could be done in VSX4 too... if it was working :(

I'm Wondering what changed from VSx3 and VSx4 capture mode as I can do it only in vsx3 :(

I have X4 and indeed was one of the Beta testers of it... One of the first things I tried with it was capturing from my own Canon HV-20. It worked and continues to work just fine. However, I switched to another capture program for my HDV way back with X2 -- called HDVSplit -- because it splits incoming HDV by scene, something that the capture module of VS in any version has not been able to do. And I like lots of little, real clips rather than one long one which you have to later split into lots of virtual clips...
