Hi, for me (XP 32-bit) removing and reinstalling QuickTime worked

Update:
There is now the strange effect: no second monitor preview only works in NOT full screen mode for the MOV files

I can not belive that the reason I moved from X3 to X4 was due to a bug with audio not playing only to pay the money and find that I can't import .MOV files taken on an iPhone.

Thank you very much to the person who solved this - moving the dll to the windows dir worked perfectly and X4 is now useful again.

Shame, the installation program ignored all the settings and customisation from X3. Now Ihave to set up the whole library all over again plus had to manually install about 20 extra add-ons by putting in paths to template folders. Whats that about? Maybe I'll post on the upgrade process in a separate thread. [Corel love to buy a product, promise loads but then wreck the user interface. Paint Shop pro 8 is still better than that corel disaster called paint shop pro.]

Anyway - main point of this post is to say that on Win 7 64bit with latest quicktime, moving the dll to c:\windows worked. :D

I know this is seven months later, but eajhnsn1's fix worked for me.

I've been trying to import an old MOV file for hours, even tried converting it to AVI with other programs and it either has white pixelated areas or is upside down. Did a search, a link to this thread was the top link. I should have tried this yesterday.

Thanks!

As a followup, it may be better to just add that QuickTime directory to the system PATH. It should have the same effect, but is cleaner than copying a file around.
Agreed. Otherwise I think QT would never update for VS purposes so long as the path to the Quicktime directory is absent.

My MOV files come from a Canon T3i and I get the dreaded incompatible version error when I attempt to import. Latest version of both VS and QT. I looked up my laptop's Win7 system path and found that the Quicktime folder was already in the path. So I resorted to copying the QTCF.dll file directly into c:\windows just in case there was some kind of syntax problem with the path. It was worth a try but I'm sorry to say this didn't work in this instance.

It seems that the Canon EOS 7D uses the H.264 codec, in the MOV container. VS is somewhat picky when it comes to MOV files. Try renaming the extension from MOV to mp4 and see if VS will then import it. I have a Hi-Def file that is MP4, and uses the same codec. VS has no problems with it.
YES!!! To my surprise, this actually worked. And, the original extension can be retained by simply tacking on ".MP4". For instance, a file name would end up looking like "MVI_0001.MOV.MP4". To me, this helps identify it as an original camera file rather than a conversion so the extension can be restored in the future without doubts if and when this is no longer an issue.

Hi 321

I own a Canon EOS 7D, running windows XP and have no problems importing the video files.
The canon cameras are bundles with some software which in have installed, this may provide the correct codecs for the files.
As far as I know they do use Mov H264, however viewing the properties in Video Studio does not display this, nor any other type of compression, as though VS cannot read the Mov H264 combination, certainly you cannot produce a H264.Mov using Video Studio.

Mp4 is basically Mov....Nice to know that changing the extension to MP4 allows you to use the files.

Upgraded from x4 to x5 yesterday. I have MOV files created from iphones. STILL have the QT issue. I have QT 7.7.2 installed.

Seriously, Corel, what gives?

I just upgraded from X4 to X5 and had to DOWNGRADE QT from 7.7.2 to 7.6 to get it to work.

UGH.

Hi sgd

welcome to the forums

The people that visit this board are just like you, normal people,
I doubt very much if a Corel employee reads your post. I'm not saying that Corel employees are not normal, they just don’t visit here, not often

Can we assume that by reverting QT to an earlier version that the program is now working correctly.

Nor do we really understand the problem some people have with the latest version of QT. Other users -- myself included -- use the latest version with no problem in conjunction with Video Studio. So it has to be down to a question of computer architecture and the combination of other software packages or Windows updates or both, that is causing the problem for only some users. But it has been an ongoing problem for several successive versions of VS, and Corel I believe is aware of the problem, but is either unable or unwilling to address it effectively.

This fix worked for me just now.. Using Win 7 64-bit, and the latest version of QuickTime.

If you can get it to work by copying the dll to C:\Windows, I'm thinking that the Environment Variable "Path" does not include "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\" for either the current User variables or the System variables. You can verify by going to the Control Panel and clicking the "System" icon, then clicking the "Environment Variables" button on the Advanced tab (Windows XP Pro). You need to be logged in with Administrator privileges to edit the Path variables.

Hmmm... Very interesting. Following your suggestion, Kingston, I found that "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\" was already set automatically on my Win 7 64-bit setup. I certainly did not do it manually, let alone copy that dll as suggested above. And I have never had any problem with the latest versions of QT on this or a variety of other 32 bit computers... I wonder why it installs automatically for some users but not others?
