I should also say the video was shot with my Canon 7D camera in high definition.

Welcome to the forums,

It seems that the Canon EOS 7D uses the H.264 codec, in the MOV container. VS is somewhat picky when it comes to MOV files. Try renaming the extension from MOV to mp4 and see if VS will then import it. I have a Hi-Def file that is MP4, and uses the same codec. VS has no problems with it.

Ok, thanks for the tip Ron. I will give it a try. However, that is CRAZY Corel didn't fix this in X4!!! That is just unacceptable.

I have no problem with MOV files with hi-def h.264 1920x1080p 29.97 and AAC audio. Files are from a Kodak Zx3 PlaySport.

I do have the most recent version of Quicktime installed. Make sure yours is up to date.

I read some where that I must use Quick Time 7.6 and not the current version. So I un-installed the most current version and installed version 7.6 and now it works. This is CRAZY! How can Corel make something so shoddy that it won't work unless you install some previous version of Quick Time. This is totally bush league.

Hello JamesRoyal,

I think you are referring to the previous QuickTime issue as posted on this KB Article: http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/764518, but that is for the previous version (at least now that VS X4 is released).

It appears that this is a codec issue, where you need to get the latest codecs in order for VideoStudio X4 recognize the file that you want to load to the software. A codec is like an interpreter, so that VideoStudio X4 knows and understand what the video is all about. You can download the latest Quicktime at http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

That's my point though, I had the MOST CURRENT version of Quick Time installed and X4 wouldn't work, I had to go back to the version in the link you posted and use that version instead. Why?

James,

I've been investigating some issues with VS X4, this being one of them. When you purchased it, did you purchase the ESD (download) or activate a TBYB version? Could you post your version number please? In case you're not aware of where it's located, click on that Corel Guide round button, then on the Gear icon in the upper right of the Guide, select About Corel VS..

Thank you..

I know this thread is rather old, but I ran into the same problem on one of my computers. From some testing, it seems like VideoStudio just doesn't handle newer versions of QuickTime. Since I'm running iTunes on that same machine, downgrading isn't an option.

So I wrote a little bit of code to make use of the QuickTime Pro ($30) api to allow me to automate the extraction of the mp4 video from the mov files. If anyone is curious, I wrote up a post about it at http://www.thejohnsonblog.com/2012/01/0 ... orkaround/. If anyone else wants this utility, just let me know.

Here's to hoping the VideoStudio/QuickTime integration isn't as fragile in the future.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Some of us here seem to be able to use the latest version of QT without problems in X4 and previous versions of VS, and I am one of them. However, I have no idea why some can and others can't. So I certainly agree with your statement that the VS/QT interface is at best 'fragile'.

OK, I found a fix.

Go to your C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem directory, copy the QTCF.dll file and paste it into c:\windows.

I'm now able to see QuickTime files and use them in VideoStudio again.

As a followup, it may be better to just add that QuickTime directory to the system PATH. It should have the same effect, but is cleaner than copying a file around.

Hopefully someone else with the same problem will soon try this out and see if it also works for them. But thank you in advance for finding this...
