During editing HDV footage I'm used to enable “Proxy files”. The proxy’s MSP8 produced were mpg files of approx. 25% of the original file.
Now I have installed MSP8 on my new computer (with the 2 service-packs) and the proxy files are surprisingly in avi format and, of course, even bigger than the original file.
These proxy files are not “smart” anymore but I don’t see any possibility in the Proxy-tab of “Preferences” to solve this problem and go back to mpg.
Is there anyone who can help me with a “smart” suggestion?

Re: Troubles with Proxy files………….
Is your "new computer' a Win7 one? I just looked at my MSP8 on my laptop which runs Vista, and it shows MPEG (default) for the Smart Proxies. Pressing the Template button should show DVD at the top, these are the MPEG options, and then at the bottom should be the DV, which are the AVI file types.

Oeps, that was stupid, working with MSP8 for already so many years and this "misser"!!!! You see how one works on routine but buying a new computer is not a daily job for me.
Thanks Ron, my new one is still with OS XP Pro. The strange thing was that in the Template list PAL DVD (16:9) was missing. I took however 4:3 and via "options" I created the one needed.
Thanks again,
Wim Kok
