Yes, Guy -- that's a good idea. Thanks. I have already made the change to my opening post in this thread -- though I have not yet had time to go through existing posts to extract titles from each...

What i really miss:

1. Batchprocessing (alike MSP7) (Oops - its already in!)
2. Jump from edit point to edit point (alike MSP7)
3. Better possibilities to access positions on the timeline (alike MSP7, DMF6 - [wheel / fast forward/backward])
4. Aditional use of cursor keys for positioning (soft with Shift/greater single key press) as known from MSP7 (and others) and extended key-short cuts.
5. Handling of fades for each file on the timeline (i often have 3 films on the timeline, what i don't will add together, but fade in and out each one for itself and put a chapter mark onto). (OK - works, if different tracks are used)
6. Same functionality in the DMF part of VS Xx as in DFM6/7 - Not all projects need the main editor - and the main menu is free from the projectfile ;-)
Is there any possibility to make a DVD without that include of that damned project file in the main menu without processing the used files in front of making a DVD? See begin of point 6.

Maybe a lot of the above is out of the marketing scope for the (hopefully good checked) consumer market, but would save a lot of time and gives more productivity.

In my humble opinion for the "Pro" in VideoStudio must be done a lot more to reach a range between the earlier "normal" VideoStudio and the nearly real Professional Mediastudio Productline - what must die.

But Smartsound is fine and i could integrate my old Smartsound CDs in VS X4 very easy.

I don't think I need to bother after reading the above thread.
I had the exact problem using X3 as mcspeedy380 with X4!

Basically, mcspeedy380 had identical findings to mine. You can import the movie at 60fps, and you can output a movie at 60fps. Sounds great until you inspect the movie frame by frame. You will find that the movie has been converted to 30fps, losing half the frames, and then re-converted to 60fps by duplicating the frames.

And I am trying to achieve the same thing as mcspeedy380. I have 60fps footage from GoPro HD, and I want to slow it down to 50% to have a smooth 30fps slow motion playback. Just could not Corel to work. I only get a jerky 15fps playback (with duplicated frames to simulate a 30fps movie).

That alone is a deal breaker to stop me from even going to X4, never mind that I can find nothing about X4 rectifying the constant freeze ups and crashes I get with X3 that re-installs (the only solution offered) do nothing to fix. I am going to be shooting a lot of aerial video with a GoPro and need true 60 fps editing and rendering.

Photo X3 is a great product, but VS X3 is not and in my mind X4 should be a patch rather than an upgrade and at least offered to X3 users at a substantial discount or free of charge. I'll be putting my money towards a higher end product that can take true advantage of my hardware (64 bit windows, 12GB ram, 1GB video, i7 920) and give me true 60 fps rendering. I may even put the money towards an open source project if I can find one that looks like it has potential.

So Corel, for X5, fix the above and get it reliable, hike the price if necessary, in the meantime I'll be trying Vegas pro and seeing what else is out there.

There are 2 seperate threads detailing how to achieve 60 fps editing/rendering. The following is one of them.

1. Keep preferences upon closing and stop reverting back to original settings, ie, Link status, if unchecked, cannot be retained upon shut down.
2. Have All HD selections to Blu Ray spec made available ,ie, 1280X 720 @ 59.94P, etc.
3. Have 60P capability for new cams. and include in above.
I know this is a tall order in a sea of organized chaos but, it must be done and standardized someday.

Well, that's the thread I read and participated. And so far, it looks like it doesn't work and other users have the same problem as I had with X3.

You have obviously not read it closely. Apart from anyone else in those threads, I have personally made 50p files using AVI as the template, and a variety of fairly standard codecs within that. Furthermore, they can be made 1920 x 1080. And of course, the same applies if you are in an NTSC country using 60p.

But if you are wanting to use mpeg as the base, then the international standard still only has a maximum of 1280 x 720p. It is somewhat unrealistic to expect software manufacturers to include a capacity to edit and produce at a higher frame size when there is no international agreement on the standard as yet.

my wish

* to add an option in text animation to be from right to left and not only from left to right (we in israel can't use most of the animations for example if i want to write text with animation like tipe recorder- i can't becouse all the effect are from left to right with no option to change it to right to left)

* to add a transition that take the picture/clip from one corner of the fram and close to him . like the transition "diagonal" in "stretch" category but let me the option to choose the opan dot. (example- i have shot with T.V on, and i want the movie that we show in the t.v to fullfill the hole screen, i want that to be in trasition and not by cut!)

i'm sorry for the bad english...

thanks

Having used VSO X3 and X4 for a Short while now.. what i would like to see is thus.. the ability to unsplit clips.. so i can rejoin.. at any time not just clicking undo.
and when creating Video files for internet would like to be able to have a better control on frame rate, size of video in pixels, and size of file, an estimate of file size before rendering would be nice and of course the ability to set fast start /hinting for viewing on internet

I'd like to see something similar to the MPEG Optimizer where you can see a color coded chart showing the portions of a video that will and will not be re-encoded for all Output types. The best quality will always be when the source video is not re-encoded and currently it's impossible to tell when this will occur for anything except the MPEG-2 Optimizer. I know that if no editing is done to a piece of video, VS will not re-encode it, I just would like to be able to see this for the different output types. PowerDirector has had this feature for some time now.

3D video import support for 3D camcorder/camera videos.
VS currently only allows you to export videos in 3D and does not support importing of 3D-AVI files successflu ly , as I tried mporting a 3D video from a Fujifilm FinePix REAL 3D W3 3D camera and although it appears in the timeline , it does not playback correctly.

1. Exact, time-based placement of overlay clips. I would have thought this to be a no-brainer. (Drag video/photo to overlay track. Right-click on overlay - Location - then enter hhmmssff) - overlay jumps to requested timeline location.
2. Preferences option to TURN OFF AUTOPLAY OF VIDEO AFTER CREATION by default....not require user to always have to remember to uncheck the option which defaults to yes/play.

This one really is for DVDMF7, 6, etc. Haven't tried creating a DVD with X4 since I still have X3/DVDMF7se installed
1. When editing chapter titles, allow use of CURSOR/ARROW keys, not requiring person to always use the mouse to drag/select

I think this one is just a matter of opinion. I like that it plays the video after rendering. That way I know it is finished and I can go back and continue working on the project. The fact is the option is there for you to turn it off. How difficult is it to do so?
