The downloadable package includes only the program. If you go to the "Do More" screen within the program you can download and install a lot more templates, title effects, and fonts. I'm assuming these things will come with the boxed version and were left off the download version to save space and time.

You can re-dock the windows by positioning them where they should be, and then double-clicking on the row of dots in the upper left of that window. Alternatively, you could select one of the other layout formats. That should dock them. You find them in the preferences menu.

cobo04,
Take at least a little time to view the tutorials, read some information before you go jumping off complaining about things that there is no merit for!!

There is no DVD MovieFactory with VS X4. They reverted to the integrated burn module, that has been around for years. You should be able to launch the burn module by going to Share>Create Disc. This is not DVD MovieFactory, and is definitely not DVD Factory 2010. It is integrated, so if you choose to jump into the burn module without rendering a video file first, you can.

There is one default layout, all others are determined by you, the user. So you can re-arrange, re-size, choose to have a panel or two just minimized, and save that layout, by going to Settings>Layout Settings>Save to. Then all it takes to switch between them, is going to the same menu, except choosing Switch to. What's really nice is that you can undock, resize, then as Jan pointed out, double-click on the title bar, and it re-docks to the last position.

Nope, don't agree with anyone that says it doesn't have enough of this or that. Templates (not Menu), sorry more than any previous version I'm aware of. Plus you can create your own and use them in the Instant Project Wizard. It doesn't have enough movies? What's that about, it's a video editing program, not a DVD player, or video player. Shoot your own clips, get creative and make your intros/outros. Sorry but we see this with every new release, and it's really childish when one of the very first things people complain about is that it doesn't have enough of...   :x

I didn't know about a refund but I called customer support and you can get a reduced upgrade price of $50. I just bought it on January 17th so I'm hosed for the $30 refund and the reduced upgrade is more than what I paid. It would be a bitter pill to swallow if I upgraded now.

The feature change list is underwhelming for the hardware I have and how I would use it but I would have liked multi-monitor support.

FYI, Intel has screwed up their QuickSync rendering support, which Corel has added to this product. QuickSync is limited to PCs using the on-chip integrated graphics. Plug in a discreet card and QuickSync is disabled. That means you have to use a motherboard with the mid-range H67 chipset or lower. Of course this is kinda pointless since all of these boards have been recalled and won't be available again until April.

Corel are giving away a free copy each day this week on twitter. Follow @corelsoftware and retweet their #win message.

There's also a giveaway at http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2011/ ... -giveaway/

I downloaded the trial this afternoon , installed it and all the add-ons etc that were in the 'more' section.

Not quite sure I like the new layout with the moveable viewer, seems this is really intended for a duel screen as no matter where it is placed it covers over some of the controls or on screen images (video/transition/etc).

Also once again DVD movie factory is a separate item, come on Corel, at least go back to when this came as part of the package, making a DVd is all part of editing is it not? Well, where ellse would a video end up, not all of us are happy about putting our videos onto websites like Youtube, facebook, etc.

One good thing I was quite surprised about after X2 and X3, I was able to capture from my Sony VX1000 over Firewire and my encoder card as well as from my Panasonic HDC-TM700 over USB2, as well as the stop frame animation capture saw my USB webcam and my DSLR over USB. Thumbs up on this. (so why wasn't X2/X3 able to see my VX1000?)

I shall play with X4 over the next couple of days and put it through its paces, still to find the 2D -3D section that Corel advertises on their website about X4, it must be there somewhere.

Also contacted Corel Customer support today, I only bought X3 about 3 weeks ago so would be lookng a good discount if I were to go ahead with buying X4 - then I could put the money towards a second monitor to place the viewer.

cobo04 -- this post is largely a repeat of much of your earlier one, including the above statement. It seems to completely ignore Ron's response to your earlier one. There is now a full integrated burning module contained in X4, just as there was in X2 and previous versions, though not in X3...

How does the X4 trial work if you already have X3? Is the X4 program installed "alongside" the X3 program? Or does X4 overwrite X3 (which could make it difficult to go back)?

It installs as a completely different program. A number of us have various versions of VS installed on the same computer, and all work separately and well. For instance, on this computer, I have X4, X3 and X2...

Having read and re-read the manual and the comments made on this forum, I made my first DVD both in 2D (original video) and in 3D (Anaglyph). Both worked well, so a lot happier with X4 now.

Can't at present get it to see my DSLR over USB for the animation capture but maybe I'm doing something wrong or not installed the link to my camera, anyway - it sees and uses my webcam and using this I created by first stop frame animation, love the onion-skin feature, I looked for a stop frame animation software with this feature and it would have cost me an arm anda leg. So a bonus from Corel on this.

Although I did click on one of the templates and a message came up - Access Denied. Clicked on the OK button and all was well, just a bit odd.

Thanks to all who commented on my entries - all points were taken and along with the manual - thanks for the link - all is working well.

So what's the consensus of the Xperts on this forum of X4? It did apparently fix the audio problem I was having with MOD files. It does reintegrate burning into the software too.

But I'd like to hear more from others who are "in the know."

@cobo04,

Even on old VS X3, if you want to capture a HD video using a camera, it is ideal to use Firewire and not a USB Connection.

...though of course that only applies to HDV cameras which are the only ones which come with a Firewire port!

I've tried X4 over the past few days and it does see and capture from both my Sony VX100 over firewire and my Panasonic HDC-TM700 over USB, as well as seeing my video encoder card.

The animation capture sees only my USB webcam, not my video encoder card (through which I would source my DSLR), still as my USB webcam has a 2Meg pixel sensor, I was able to use this with lighting and place it on a tripod to create a short plasticene animation - okay kids stuff but it was just a concept of what I could do, the onion skin effect was most helpful on this and the first time I've come across this effect on 'low cost' video capture/edit software - so good on Corel for this addition.

Also created a 2D to 3D video, the valures may beed to be altered and played with as using the default values made the 3D video appear to tilt backwards from top to bottom, also the audio was about 6 frames out of sync on the 3D version but in sync on the 2D version. Not sure why but one for the experiment.

As for DVD authoring, not too sure onthe installed version on X4, might just us the saves video and author it using DVD Movie Factory I have for X3, this offers a lot more flexability.

Thanks to everyone of their help and comments plus links. Will be havng words with Corel Customer support about getting the license for X4 (they did say come back to them about this as I'd only had X3 for less than a month).
