Trouble with Widescreen/16:9 video help!

Post by lordsofdogtownSKATE »

Hi,

I have a little problem with making my video Widescreen (16:9).
I created the file as a DVD (16:9) (or an MPEG-2), but the black bars appear not only on the top and bottom of the screen, but the left and ride sides of it, too.

I created a DVD to see if it was just a problem on the computer, and it wasn't, because the same thing happened on the DVD player (it had the black bars on both sides). So if anyone could give any suggestions on rendering it a different way or doing something different it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

That is exactly what happens with 4:3 content on a 16:9 timeline.

Right, so then how do you change the 4:3 content to 16:9?

EDIT: ok, my bad I get what you mean.

Wel, you can use *Distort* to stretch the content (keep aspect with the Shift key), and put the content it the target rectangle.

It doesn't look bad on my 16:9 monitor, but you lose some resolution and some top/bottom.

My camcorder will record video in widescreen format and the only way I could get it to look correct was by turning off "non square pixel rendering" when you create the avi and it should look correct on your pc monitor. Also make sure it's off if you decide to burn a DVD. Unfortunately VS9 will keep trying to turn it on so you have to be persistant at checking this setting everytime you convert the video from one format to another.

If you are trying to convert 4:3 to 16:9 then listen to Mike.
