Having trouble rearranging order of clips

Post by tribal-warrior »

I am using Ulead Video Studio version 11 for a film project. There is no help menu or guide that I can find in this software but most of it is pretty much self-explanatory. Ive searched the knowledge base for my query but that did not have the answers.

However, I have just finished the trimming and now Ive come to the rearranging of clips which I thought would be the easiest part. With clicking and dragging in the storyboard mode, it seems that I can only move clips from left to right. The exception is the very first clip - that cannot be moved at all. And no matter how many times I try, I cannot move clips from right to left. Crazy.

There are 94 seperate clips in this film and obviously, I don't want to shift every single one of those to the right just to get the correct arrangement of several clips. Ive held down the shift key and also the alt key while clicking and dragging but that does nothing. For anyone who's familiar with version 11, is there indeed a way that I can move clips from right to left? What I want to do is dead simple. All of the other NLE programs Ive used allow for hassle free rearrangement of shots, even Windows Movie Maker.

Welcome to the forums,

Are you using VS11.5 Plus, VS11 Plus, or VS11, VS11SE?

First there should be a PDF User's Guide, that is installed with the program's Content Pack. If you have the ESD (Electronic Software Download), the installation file is called uvs11_plus_contentpack_(e).exe. The user guide is accessed through your Windows, Start>All Programs>Ulead VideoStudio 11>User Manual.

VS 11 was the last version to have this very nice Storyboard feature. In the upper left corner of the Storyboard, just below the Storyboard Icon, you should see an upward facing arrow. Click on it. The storyboard will expand to full screen. Now with the Storyboard in full screen, you can rearrange your clips much easier. You still should be able to drag and drop, from left to right, from right to left or any place.

Do you have anything in any of the other tracks, overlay, title, audio? Do you have Ripple Editing enabled? If so this will prevent some movement of clips in the main video track, as clips in other tracks are tied to the main video track. If not, you should be able to move the clips in the main track.

With all that said, keep in mind, that clips in the Main video track, will always slide to the left, so there are no gaps. So for example if you have 3 clips, A, B, and C, in the Main track. You move clip B, clip C will automatically slide to the left, and you drop clip B to the left of Clip A, clip A and C should move to the right, to make room for Clip B. So now the order would be clip B, A, C. Now if you want to move Clip B to the right of Clip C, clips A and C would slide to the left. Following me?
