PSP X3 install starts up everytime I use it

Post by robell »

I installed PSP X3 Ultimate a few days ago. About 10 minutes or so after using PSP X3 the installation routine starts. If I click cancel, it immediately resumes.

I let the install rerun and reloaded the DVD to see if that would fix it. Instead the install routine runs for a short time and when its done it asks me to register. I've now registered PSP X3 twice...but the install routine still runs each time.

If it's of any interest, I read on the Picasa forum that some Picasa users have noticed that PSP X3 installation is sometimes triggered when Picasa runs. I use Picasa (v3.8) for most simple photo edits and organising my photos, but the PSP X3 install routine triggers whether or not I'm using Picasa.

Also, I uninstalled PSP X after installing X3, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I was expecting PSP to update itself to the most recent version, rather than leaving an older version still running.

Any ideas?

Does the install routine run without the disk in the drive? If so, can you delete the installer files?

I don't use Picasa very often at all, but I've never had it start anything other than Picasa.

Uninstalling PSP X may have done some damage. You can retain different versions on the same computer, but if there's any shared files that were deleted it may have some consequences. Can you tell us how you uninstalled the program? Did you just use the Windows uninstaller or did you use the uninstaller/cleanup tool offered by Corel?

Hello robell,

There are many reasons why this happens. You may want to perform a clean reinstallation by follow the steps from this KB http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/764391

Then download all updates from this page: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 9872271743 once you have reinstalled the program.

To answer your questions df...

The install routine kicks off without the disk and then asks for a disk. If I click cancel, a second or two later the install routine kicks off again, each time asking for the disk. So cancelling does not help.

I uninstalled PSP X from Windows XP's Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. I didn't use Corel's clean up tool.

I will uninstall and re-install PSP X3, following the instructions in your and Abiel's posts and let you know what happened.

Many thanks.

Check any Internet access security in place such as firewalls such that PXP has full access. When you start it it does use the Internet for update checks I believe and also any help use.

If a service called PsiService_2.exe is trying to access the Internet allow it. I think that it is used by PSPX3, among other programs, for license checking.

Certain antivirus applications may consider an application that frequently accesses folders a possible virus. Insure in your antivirus settings PSPX3 is fully trusted. Norton and Kapersky for example can do this.

@robell

I asked for a screenshot because there is an issue since SP3.

Description:
If your organizer has picked up all content in your folders and there are MOV files, then you get an installer window that will ask you to insert the disc and gives error 1402. It's trying to set up its own installation again and again. There is no way to finish this installation process.

Please contact your local Corel support and they can help you.

I found that changing the extension of moviethumb.exe into moviethumb.txt kept PSP from installing over and over again. The only thing Picasa doesn't do anymore is making a little picture from the video's for the library. I know it's a workaround but hey, that's a small price to pay to keep us from throwing our computer out of the window and burn it afterwards (-;

btw: I find it quite 'strange' (I'm using this word here as a euphemism) that Corel has no solution in the database

We are investigating in this error at the moment. This loading error also affects sending images via e-mail.
You can to stop the loading process at the beginning by clicking again and again on the "Cancel" button.

We do apologise for this error which came up with SP 3. SP 4 was already finished and didn't contain a solution for this error.

I just ran across this thread after spending several days with Corel support via email on this very same problem. After them telling me to clean uninstall/reinstall PSPPX3, which I did a few times; and them telling me I must have a corrupt user profile, I finally figured out, by installing the updates one at a time, that it was update #3 that "broke" things.

It would have been appreciated if whoever does the tech support email would have known that this is a known problem, and would have saved me hours of work with uninstall/re-installs.

Hopefully this problem will get fixed quickly. It is pretty annoying.

You sent me a PM, but I see no way to respond to it, and when I select the "compose" option, I get a message "We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature. " The same thing happens if I add you as a friend.

With regard to my troubleshooting, the last time I did the installation, I saved the install files (copied them to a new folder so they would be accessible even after the normal installer deleted them. I then navigated to the PSP?.msi file when called for. That installation completed but, when I tried to start up PSP after, I received a different error message: "DetectLanguage()Failure. Exiting."

The technical support person referred me to http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/764569

However, at this point, I no longer have the install files on my machine and I've wasted too much time trying to troubleshoot this problem. I have installed updates 1 and 2, but I am holding off on 3 for now. So I provide the information to you in the hopes it will help resolve this.

I will contact the online support team that they have to be familiar with all these bugs. Normally, they know about this.

The DetectLanguage Failure problem comes up after receiving the 1402 error. We have escalated it as priority bug that has to be sorted out as soon as possible.

You are right, don't install SP 3 or SP 4.
