Interpretting Adobe Color Codes

Post by kchildress »

... back again trying to interpret Photoshop lingo

What exactly does this mean in terms of color codes? #FFFF7F, #FFE5CC, #7F7F7F (as a few examples)

Can this be converted to PSP actions?

Those are HTML color codes, used for the web. For example the first code in your example is also R-255; G-255; B-127 (which is RGB), or HSL would be, H-42; S-255; L-191.

I used third code you provided "#7F7F7F" color code here. When you're posting to the web board, click on the Font Color button. Then clicking on a color swatch will insert the proper code, part of that being the HTML color code.

Ron,

I see. But I think I'm missing something ...

I don't understand how you knew "#7F7F7F" was an option in the group of color swatches. Or did you just paste that code into the text box and the color magically appeared in your text?

Lastly, how did you convert the HTML color code into an RGB measure?

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks!

one more question ...

So once I have the RGB and HSL values, what is the quickest/easiest way to apply those to a layer? The only way I know is to write each of the values down and manually adjust the RGB and HSL values individually. Any way to copy/paste those values in one wide stroke?

EDITED with idea: Apparently I don't know how to apply an exact RGB and HSL mix to a layer. Looks like I'm adding a blank layer, filling it with a given color code, changing that blend mode to COLOR and merging down????

Hello kchildress,

That will depend on what result you want to have. But if you want to know how the best way to apply the RGB or HSL is just apply each value to the MATERIALS Properties from the screen shot of Ron.

This is the best time to practice your use of the Num Pad and the TAB key.
