I've been using Video studio X3 for a while now and without problem but I'm really struggling with editing an old DVD of mine.
I've copied all the VOB files to my hard drive, changed the .vob to .mpg on all files, imported to X3 and tried to multi-trim each file - which is what I always do and usually without problems.
For some reason, these MPGs seem to race through at 5/6 times normal speed on the timeline and yet the edit/preview window plays in normal time ...... result being that the slider reaches the end of the timeline for the file and yet the video is still running quite happilly in the viewing window !!!
It's impossible to edit like this as the timeline and the window are not only out of sync but running at different speeds !!!
What am I doing wrong ?

First thing I think we need from you Paul is a bit more information about your video files - with one of your mpegs in the timeline of VS will you please RIGHT click over it and choose 'Properties' from the pop up - copy all of those properties and post them here so we can investigate and help you with your problem.

Although the clip states it is 19.6 seconds long and that is shown on the timeline ...... the clip is actually about a minute long and runs in the preview/edit window for that long ...... running quite happily even when the slider reaches the end of the timeline !

Re: Can't edit MPG in Video studio X3
Got round the problem in the end by converting the MPGs to WMVs and then editing in X3 ...... worked fine !

Re: Can't edit MPG in Video studio X3
Glad you found a work-around.
One thing that I noticed with the video clip properties you posted, is that it is showing that the video clip is only 19.68 secs long. If you take the total frames, (492) and divide that by the frame rate (25fps), it will tell you the total duration of the clip. So according to VS anyway, it is only seeing that much of your video file. Which could be some minor corruption to the file that is causing the problem. Did you use VS to convert it to WMV? If so, and you managed to get the total duration, how did you arrive at it?
One thing that I've had happen is I've trimmed a clip using the mark-in/mark-out when testing problems found here on the forums. Then I've forgotten to restore the clip to it's original duration. So when I've dragged the same clip from the library later, it appeared that the clip was not as long as I thought it to be. Grabbing the yellow handle on the right, allowed me to restore it to it's correct duration.

I converted the MPG to WMV using WinAvi video convertor and the clip was actually about 3 minutes long in the end !!!
