Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
Have looked but am unable to find how to make PSPImage files display as proper thumbnails in Windows Explorer in Windows 7 on new PC. Old PC had Vista where they displayed fine. They obviously work fine in PSP but not in Windows Explorer.
Am using PSPXII with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thanks

Re: Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
In Windows XP sp3 it works. Look at attached screenshot.
In Windows 7 it should by similar, but if you have Windows 7 x64 bit it is a different story... (??)

Re: Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
Hello Walpole1,
I think the problem is with your PSP X2, since it is not compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. The thumbnail works on Windows 7 64 bit, I'm using PSP X3. Check the screen shot below. You can visit http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 4516325170, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.
There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.
You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows
You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx.
You also want to consider upgrading your Corel software, since the latest version of VideoStudio is full compatible with Windows 7, you can download the 30 day full working trial at http://www.corel.com/trials.

Hi Abiel,
You keep repeating this statement...
This is simply not true.
I use PSPPX2 on a Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium computer (now a year old), without running any compatibilty mode or whatever.
I installed X2, then the patches and the file to show .PspImage files in Explorer and that was that.
I don't understand why you feel that X2 isn't compatible on a Windows 7 computer.
Joelle (somewhat puzzled)

Re: Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
Because it technically isn't. Corel defines "compatible" as products that "have been tested and have no known issues when running on Windows 7." So either it wasn't tested, unlikely, or it demonstrated problems from time to time that only appeared on a Windows 7 machine. It doesn't tell us what problems they experienced. But different people will probably find different problems.
PSPX2 wasn't designed to be compatible with Windows 7 and hasn't been shown to have no problems. So Corel does not guarantee it'll work properly. And in some cases steps do need to be taken. I personally think they are not describing it properly, as it sounds like it shouldn't work at all when they say "not compatible" but "not supported" suggests that Corel won't help you if you install it on a Windows 7 machine which isn't correct either. So...it's not compatible, but you may never experience problems even if it isn't. But you may also encounter problems if you do.

Perhaps "not fully compatible" is nearer the mark...?

Re: Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
I think it is Corel marketing-speak ...
By announcing that X2 isn't compatible with a Windows 7 machine, it plants the suggestion that the user should really be buying X3!
Nothing is 100% perfect in the computing world, but I wouldn't be in the least surprised if this had not been tested.
What a company says and what a company does are two very different things.
Can't wait to see what the version X4 is like.

Re: Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
PSPP X2 is compatible with Windows 7 64 bit according to Microsoft on this page.
Its a bit confused though. That page says that X2 Ultimate (version 12.5) needs an upgrade, but another page (See here) says that it is fine.
Basically X2 works fine in Windows 7 (the Bot Productions tool fixes the Windows Explorer thumbnail problem), and in some circumstances better than X3. X3 has problems with Windows 7 Starter edition, the version commonly installed on netbooks. X3 still has a swag of unfixed bugs, a less usable interface than X2, and the latest update broke many plugins, so I would not recommend upgrading to X3 without extensive testing of the trial version.

Re: Displaying PSPImage files in Windows7
Yeah but looking at Microsoft's rules for "compatibility" it only makes a difference if Microsoft performed the battery of tests for compatibility. Otherwise it just has to be reported as compatible or a promise of an update has to be made.
So Microsoft only needs to hear from Corel to make X2 compatible or recommend the update on their list. Corel needs to experience no "problems" in their own testing. Though what they consider a Windows 7 related problem I don't know.
Well like you all I'll say it is compatible.
But, that doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. It certainly didn't (though did a better job than X3) before Windows 7.
And Corel makes no promises on that end of it either. So use X2 knowing that at any problem you have Corel might just shoot back "It's not compatible with Windows 7" and offer you no help at all.
