I have recently purchased a Toshiba A660-1FM with the WINDVD 10 already installed.
I can play DVD's completely start to finish. When I play a Blu Ray dvd the film plays from anything from 10 mins to 1 hour then the lap top will freeze. the only way forward is by a manual reset. I have all the lastest updates. I have even purchased a new software package from Corel.
I have tried new updates for all the relavant drivers for sound card video card etc. With no sucess.
I have Norton 360 installed and wondered if the background scans may be an issue. Any help with this will be appreciated. The next step would be the Techguys at PC world(so helpful Not!)

Yes, I recommend that you uninstall Norton 360. Use the Norton Uninstaller:
http://bit.ly/di9PYr
Norton 360 is a notorious resource hog and transforms perfectly capable PC's into molasses.
If you still encounter freeze ups, then I would suggest opening the NVIDIA control panel and moving the performance slider to 'maximum performance' rather than 'maximum quality'.
Your laptop can support 2x4GB DDDR3 memory modules (8GB total):

Consider replacing the memory modules so that you're utilizing the maximum capacity supported by the mainboard. And while you're at it, check the BIOS memory configuration. Many vendors use the SPD information which is notoriously inaccurate - the memory voltage may be too low, and the latency clock cycles inconsistent with the memory manufacturer's recommended settings. If your BIOS allows you to manually configure memory voltage and clock latency cycles, disable SPD (Serial Presense Detect) and manually enter the correct voltage, latency values and confirm that the frequency multiplier is correct for the memory frequency. Incorrect memory configuration is a notorious cause of instability, particularly the BSOD.

Hello lionthecatt,
Just to add to nepenthe, you may want to download the updates for WinDVD from Toshiba at http://bit.ly/dTlYD7. Since you mention that you purchased new software package from Corel, is this the retail copy of the WinDVD Pro 2010? If yes then download all updates for the program at http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 5746622377, you may also want to update the Nvidia card of your toshiba laptop, you can find the updates from this link: http://bit.ly/e0jWIw
