VS9 - Two "Fit and Burn" problems

Post by boss351 »

I have had a couple of projects that slightly pass the 4.7gb DVD size and tried Fit and Burn with them. I have noticed the following:

1) If you have an audio-track (MP3) for the Title menus the process just hangs when converting title audio, will never fix itself.

2) If I ommit the title menu music, then at the "burn" stage I get the message that the disc space is too small, even though it should have "fit" the project to the disc size (it let me know it was reducing the bit rate to 5500). The only way I can get out of this is burning to a double-layer DVD though I really want to see what the "fit" version is like in comparison.

Any help in resolving these two issues much appreciated.

Just to add extra weight to your problems; I have the fitting problem too.

"Disc space is not enough. Insert a new disc to retry, or press Cancel to stop the process."

Rather annoying when it should have made it fit.....

Anyone got a solution?

It just gets worse, I manually set the bit rate to a lot lower than the automatic calculation so it showed it would fit onto a DVD+R.

Nah-da!

I have sent in to Technical Support questions/bug reports for the problems above, I'll post if/when I get a reply. In the meantime, some more expensive double-layer DVD's are needed to finish off my current project....

I take it that Ulead should be taken aside for using the term 'Technical Support'?

Yes, no replies yet...

My solution is set the options for 8.5GB dual-layer and let ULead make an ISO image without burning to DVD. Then I use DVDShrink if necessary and DVDDecrypter to burn. No problems with that route..

I'll give that a go! :)

BTW, DVD Decryptor is no more! (as in no more future versions) :(

Shame about DVD Decrypter, the versio I downloaded works great though.
In the future I think I will be getting one of the NERO packages as they apparently do a good job on the "shrink" as well as being one of the most well known burning products.

Unlike DVD Shrink, though, Nero's Recode will not work with Macrovision and other protected source material.

Didn't you find it possible to create an .ISO file (turning off the 'burn to disk' option) that was ANY size? Since it's going onto your HD there shouldn't be any size limit. Then you can use another program to fit it to a disk.

VS9 Double Layer DVD burning

Post by DavidCresswell »

It is interesting to see that others are getting problems with DVD burning in V9. I have a number of extra expensive coasters thanks to VS9 saying it has burned a double layer DVD+R succesfully but when I come to replay the disc, it freezes after about 1 hour in both my Toshiba DVD Player and also in my PC.
It clearly shows the amount of double layer "overlap" when creating the disc and is well short of the size limits. In fact, I tried both an 8,000 kbps rendered file (about 7 gig) and then re-rendered that to a 6,000 kbps render (about 5 gig) to make sure that the MPEG file was not too large - same results.
Anyone else come across this yet? I can't keep paying out for these expensive discs!
I also noticed that trying to add more than one page of chapters was a no no. The second page chapters did not start at the chosen chapter points at all!

How did you create your original Mpeg2 file.

The Mpeg2 file could be corrupt even though it plays.
Maybe that's why it's hanging on the dvd.
Are those chapter points also around the 1 hour time frame?

I had the same problem on a long double-layer DVD and now have the same coasters. That was the point I decided to split the DVD projects that fit on a single layer (mine are home videos so no big deal). I have had multi-page menus working fine but the case I am talking about now showed the same symptoms, the menu would take me elsewhere and at some point close to the middle I got the freeze.

Still nothing back from Ulead support.

I created the MPEG2 file using the Ulead VS9 PAL DVD settings except that I chose MPEG2 Audio rather than PCM.
Once I had wasted one disc, I removed the Chapter points from the DVD and burnt again. As they no longer exist, I don't think that is part of the problem.

Having read some of the web forums, I have tried creating both a disc image (iso) file and also a DVD Folder (Video_TS and Audio_TS although the audio folder is empty) and will try to copy these to disc using other software. I believe I can use the Ulead DVD Recorder software for the iso file but am not sure what I have got to transfer the Video_TS folder.
