Memory problems
I keep getting not enough memory when trying to use several memory intensive features. The system info sees my quad core, but only 4gb of 8 gb of memory. I quite often see more than 4 gb of memory use in my usage meter because of multi tasking. I usually have to close multiple programs to solve the issue. Is this a glitch with X3? Naturally I'm running a 64 bit win 7 system. Can X3 handle 64 bit?

Re: Memory problems
Nope. Currently X3 is only a 32-bit program and as such installs itself in the Program Files(x86) folder. So it can only use the same amount of memory as a regular 32-bit program.
If you don't mind reducing the number of undo steps you can go ahead and reduce that to free up memory. File->Preferences->General Program Preferences Click Undo and reduce the number of available steps.
Also X3 has a bug where if you edit and then save the image and close it the program won't properly release the memory its accumulated so if you've been doing these large functions on multiple files that also adds up quickly. I think something was suggested for dealing with this without closing X3 but I can't remember exacts.

Re: Memory problems
Thanks Levi.
I reduced the undo and am aware of the save file glitch. BTW, do you know if Corel is going to release a 64 bit version. Multi core systems with high ram are becoming more commonplace these days.

Re: Memory problems
As Levi said, there is a bug in PSP X3 that means (especially if you work with very large files) it will leak memory to the point that it locks up. They are aware of this bug, have been for some time but haven't fixed it as yet. There is a thread I started on this forum discussing it as it affects me alot (I do alot of work with large uncompressed 16bit TIFF files). The only fix at the moment to this is to restart PSP X3 periodically, although using a utility running in the background that someone suggested to force memory clean-up did look promising as a stop-gap alternative.OUTERBANKER wrote:I keep getting not enough memory when trying to use several memory intensive features. Re: Memory problems
I primarily encounter this when I try to save. It's damn frustrating when the program bombs when you try to save. And when it happen you may as well as kill the process and cry over your lost work. Closing other images has no effect at freeing memory which makes me wonder if it really is a memory issue or just another erroneous error message.
For me crashing on save is a deal buster.

Re: Memory problems
If this is occuring after you've worked on a number of images then its consistent with what I and others have noted. Basically the program doesn't fully release back used resources when it should (e.g. when you close an image you've been working on) and eventually this accumulates to the point that, whilst not totally freezing, most functions of the program stop working and you may get an out of memory error in the script window (if you have it open). The only reliable way of getting the program to work again is to restart it.Nerd3D wrote:I primarily encounter this when I try to save. They are aware of this problem and it was officially acknowledged by a member of their support staff who comes on here (Simone) last June. I've bumped it with them a couple of times and I may do so again.

Re: Memory problems
Just to add I did ask for an update and got a fairly straight bat 'no further information' response. I'm trying to get it escalated but I must admit i'm getting more than a bit ticked off with how this is dragging on now (almost 8 months its been logged as an issue for).

Re: Memory problems
BFR, me too!
A copy and paste from the wish list thread, because not being able to save, due to this memory bug, is a deal breaker for me too!
"How's this for the wish list, I wish that X4, is given enough beta testing, so it doesn't have all the bugs that X3 has.
But I agree with Nerd3D, and was looking for the E-mail that Jasc sent me years ago, (alas i couldn't find it) that assured me how Corell, would be a great new owner of PSP.
Although I appreciate this board, and how helpful the people here try to be, I'd have never found it, except for the darned "memory" issue.
I have found a work around though, CS5. And it grieves me to say that. Having been a PSP user since PSP5, and having recommended it to all my friends, and many, many people I didn't know, when I was one of the top contributers on Yahoo Answers."

Re: Memory problems
I'm sort of heading that way too. The obvious turn-off for CS5 is the cost (and I suspect if Adobe dropped the cost a bit they'd make up the revenue in sales as I believe the current price point is exactly why its now meant to be the most pirated software package going), but this issue is starting to make me think about biting the bullet. I use Photoshop at work (albeit CS4) so the usage transition would be no big deal to me.c_j_ryan wrote:BFR, me too!

Re: Memory problems
I am confuse with the topic right now. I though we are talking of Corel and its memory requirement. Now I am reading CS5 of the Photoshop products.
Anyway, i wonder if you guys could tell me the minimum requirement in the memory for the latest Corel version.

Re: Memory problems
The published requirements from Corel for PSP X3 are as follows:johndavis wrote:Anyway, i wonder if you guys could tell me the minimum requirement in the memory for the latest Corel version.
° Microsoft® Windows® 7, Windows Vista® or Windows® XP with latest service packs installed (32-bit or 64-bit editions)
° 1.5 GHz processor (2 GHz or higher recommended)
° 1 GB of RAM (2 GB or higher recommended)
° 3 GB of free hard drive space
° Minimum display resolution: 1024 x 768 (24-bit color)
° Windows-compatible DVD-ROM drive for installation
° Internet connection required for online features
This can be found at http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... bview=tab6.
As with many products, the requirements may vary with other aspects of your system and with your particular feature usage.

Re: Memory problems
The thread is more about discussing a known and as yet unfixed memory leak issue with PSP X3 that causes it to freeze up in heavy use rather than the minimum requirements. Anyway, I see someone has provided the minimum requirements to you already.johndavis wrote:I am confuse with the topic right now. I though we are talking of Corel and its memory requirement. Memory Problems, as the topic is titled, is also something that we suffer from in old age..

Re: Memory problems
I just spoke to someone about the memory issues on the phone and he said there is a new version out that takes care of the memory issues. It is Paint Shop Pro Version 13.2.1.36......does anyone have this version and does it help the memory issue.
He said this version was not available as yet in the trial version.

Re: Memory problems
The current version number is 12.2.1.20 after patch #4. So if it jumps up to 12.2.1.36 that would suggest they are talking about a new patch but I have not gotten a notification, PSP can't find it when doing a search, and it's not listed in the patches for Paint Shop Pro. So I don't have it.
