PhotoImpact X3 - Windows 7 64-bit

Post by lchad »

I've just installed this onto a new computer and am having issues. At various times throughout using the program, the program will not respond. Basically it's crashing.

I have used this on another computer for over a year which was also Windows 7 64-bit without any trouble at all.
Can someone make any suggestions for me to resolve this?

I uninstalled it and did a fresh install this morning and it's still not playing nice.
Thanks,
Linda

Welcome to the forums,

Have you tried, or are you running it under compatibility mode for Vista or WinXP?

Hello lchad,

PhotoImpact X3 is not compatible with Windows 7, that can be the reason why it's not working as designed.

You can visit http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 4516325170, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.

There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.

You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows

You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx.

You may want to try the Paintshop Photo Pro X3, which is also a photo editing program like PhotoImpact X3. PaintShop Photo Pro X2 is fully compatible with Windows 7. You can download the 30 day full working trial at http://www.corel.com/trials.

Talking about PaintShop Photo Pro X3... Abiel, can you tell me why PhotoImpact X3 users aren't eligible for the upgrade version of PaintShop X3? Just curious..

Does anyone know if there will be any updates to Photoimpact X3? I exclusively run my business using Photoimpact and there was no notice by Ulead or Corel. Is PhotoImpact being phased out? My computer crashes each time I use Photoimpact. I will try the recommendations here, but this is a frustrating situation in that neither Ulead or Corel ever sent notice to their users.

Thank you for your response. This is a major setback that Photoimpact is being phased out. Do you know which programs support UFO files?

It's curious that some with Win7 have no problems and yet others do. I've also noticed the version difference, maybe that has some affect on older programs being able to run. It would be great if it would run without problems on any version of Win7, then we would not have to worry about Corel dropping the program.

Try reinstalling the windows. I had similar problem with my OS. Any product of adobe simply crashed and when opened was showing not responding. That was with every thing from Adobe... so I reinstall the OS and everything worked just fine.

Hi,
I know this is an old thread...but I just cant let go of photoimpact. I have been a user since it inception but did not upgrade from version 7 because I was so happy with its work flow and how it worked for me under win XP.

I now have to retire xp and and have moved to a laptop running win7 pro 64 bit.

I purchased x3 and I would like to install it on this new laptop and give it ago. Hopefully it will work ok.

At the install I am prompted to install easy palette and presets to the My Documents and Settings folder. I stopped there and backed out because I did not think that win 7 has such a folder. I looked for this folder in win 7 and I can not find it.

For those who have installed this on WIN 7 can you tell me what you would advise? I am looking for the best chance to get this working on win 7 64 bit.

Thanks and happy trails, Mike Foate

Hi Mike,

Just let the installer do its stuff.

It will install My EasyPalette in My Documents. In that you will have Libaries and Galleries.

Once PI is installed, you can access the Easy Palette from within the programme.

Have fun with PI.

Hi and thank you.
I have installed PI X3. In previous versions I used the batch manager a lot. Using PI x3 batch manager I can not get it to add drop shadows to multiple photos.

I choose Batch Manager>Category>Task>Operation>Shadow>Select All>Ok

A window pops up that reads-User aborted or function error. Unable to play some command(s). Do you want to continue? yes, no
No matter what I choose yes or no I get no drop shadows.

Any suggestions?

Also I can not get the Ulead Autodetector to stop running at start up. I right click on it>options. I uncheck the box for Run Autodector when Windows starts up.>Ok
Then if I right click on it again the box is checked. So its not holding. I do not see a way to uninstall the autodetector.

Any advice?

Happy trails, Mike

This Win7 Microsoft hotfix for Tiff thumbnail loading issues seems unrelated to UFO files, unless Media One thumbs are in use, but you might give it a look anyway.
