Is it possible to transfer a WinDVD activation?

Post by prcek »

I don't want to steal anything, but it annoys me that I have a ton of WinDVD licenses (going back many years) that are unusable but also unused because the PC's they were activated on ceased to exist a long time ago. I like building PC's and I'm always installing new drives and such and whenever I decommission a PC that has an activated copy of WinDVD I'd like to transfer the activation to another PC (or more likely a newer build of the same logical PC) - is there some way of doing this? With software like Photoshop I can simply de-activate before getting rid of the old OS/install (there is a limit on how many times this is allowed so I think very carefully before activating Adobe on a computer) but with WinDVD there seems to be no obvious way.

The reason this finally came to a boil after all these years is that I just bought WinDVD 2010 to update my living room computer (which is the most important install for movies and such) and I foolishly assumed that it would be better than the WinDVD9 I've been using on this PC for a long time, and it's actually worse so I'd like to de-activate WinDVD 2010 and stick to WinDVD9 (which I haven't un-installed yet). Oh, and the reason I hate 2010 is that when I ctrl-Q through commercial breaks in recorded shows with 2010 the process is much slower which makes those commercial breaks that much more annoying (and I don't really have to have any of the new features in 2010, the only reason I bought it is that I have a severe case of "must have the latest version of everything"-itis).

Thanks!

Hello Peter,

If you have WinDVD 9 you should be able to install and activate the program no matter how many times you change or upgrade your computer. If the original serial number no longer works, you may need to contact our Phone Support so that they can provide you a new Activation Code. You can find the nearest contact center in your area using this link: http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/754347.

Please do keep in mind that the phone agent will need to verify some information regarding your product in order for them to generate the correct activation code for you. I suggest that you make sure that your WinDVD is registered.

Prcek -

You should be able to uninstall WinDVD 2010 and reinstall WinDVD 9, as long as you have the product key for your copy of WinDVD 9.

Corel utilizes a licensing program called Protexis which you can disable if you follow the guidelines posted by

I recommend that you use the free Revo Uninstaller to uninstall WinDVD 2010, and run the uninstall program in advanced mode:

Then go offline and install WinDVD 9. Before reconnecting your Internet, disable Protexis following the appropriate instructions in the first link. Once you reconnect your Internet, Protexis won't be snooping on you.
