Paint Shop Photo Album 4

Post by Sliding Delta »

I realize this is a dated program. I got it when I bought my Dell Dimension E520 computer in May 2007. I am retired, and on a fixed income, so I am seeking to fix up the glitch in my Paint Shop Photo Album 4 rather than upgrade to a newer program. Here's the problem. Up until February 7th, 2011, the program performed flawlessly. Then, all of the sudden the "Edit" feature that comes up when I right click on a photograph is no longer available. I keep getting a message that reads: "THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR PERFORMING THIS ACTION. CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE FOLDER OPTIONS CONTROL PANEL". I am running a Windows XP Home. I have been to the Control Panel's "Folder Options" folder, and clicked on all 3 tabs and none of them offers a solution to overcoming the problem. Can anyone assist me and
teach me how to get the Edit (right-click scroll down) Feature to work again on my Paint Shop Photo Album 4? I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you for the opportunity to post my problem since support is no longer available for this program. Sliding Delta, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA (EEUU) :(

Does XP have, in Control Panel, a Default Programs icon? (Sorry, I don't have immediate access to a computer with XP on it right now.) But it is in that folder that you associate file extensions with a particular program to open them.

The other way of doing, which I know should work in XP, is to right click the image file and choose Open With... Then browse to where you have Photo Album stored and choose the .exe file there.

You might also want to read http://www.fileinfo.com/help/windows-ch ... ogram.html which gives yet a further way of going about things in XP.

Thank you, Ken. I did the right click and Open (there's no "with") on individual files. Then I right clicked and went to "Properties" and changed to Default on all files and still nothing. I also went to the link you provided and read the information but could not find anything to help. I miss the edit feature so much! I still have the "preview" which allows me to crop, quick-fix, red-eye, rotate, etc. but the "edit" had different features which I regularly used. Ah, well. I'll keep hoping one of the future suggestions will yield results. I wish I could understand what happened, or remember if I did anything to cause the loss of this feature. I even went to the CD-Rom that the computer came with, and had both Paint Shop Photo Album 4 and the Paint Shop Pro 8 and reloaded them again into my computer and nothing. The Paint Shop Pro 8 program has expired the trial period I was given. I never used it once. Thanks again for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. Sliding Delta (Chad)

Hello Sliding Delta,

You will need to set the association of the photos to your Paint Shop Photo Album 4. you can follow this Microsoft KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859, on how to associate a certain file format to Paint Shop Photo Album 4 using Windows XP.
