Couple of quick quessies for ya all.
I used to use videostudio 10+ and happy ( ish ) with it. However, i now have windows 7 and also a panasonic HD 700 series camcorder HD shooting in 1080/50 - AVCHD no less.
of course im well aware that - unless im prepared to fork out a few hundred more pounds - not a lot od editing packages out there..acutally edit AVCHD footage successfully. This is what ive heard anyway.
Question: Your thoughts on the best editing package, ie Corel's latest? any good for editing 1080/50 footage? and could you please tell me, if it does edit it ok..will it allow me to burn to disc..a regular disc - losing quality (how much quality?? ) but at least plays back on all dvd players...as well as burn to a bluray perhaps? or at least a disc which will make fine use of top quality footage?
Question : Lastly, ive tried to download X3 Corel - to try it before i buy it so to speak..why does it come up with, You cant save here, when you download it...automatically it wants to save it into a file/or something but wont. So - how/where do i save it/Run it so i can download my trial?
thanks
for all replys.

I'm afraid I have to tell you that X3 will not be able to handle the full 50p (full frames per second) output of your camcorder. The HD700, and other camcorders like it, have only recently appeared, and certainly they made their appearance well after X3 was developed. It can happily edit AVCHD, and burn it to Blu-Ray or AVCHD hybrid disc, as well as down-converting to standard DVD, but only when the video is 50i (25 full frames per second in PAL countries). I simply don't know if your camcorder can be set to record in interleaved 'i' rather than full progressive 'p' -- check its manual -- though of course that rather defeats the purpose of buying such a camera in the first place. But that is the only way X3 will be able to handle your footage. Other users with such a camcorder have either had the program simply stop working, or else produce jerky output since the program literally throws away one of every two frames to get down to its 25 fps limit. Curiously enough, it can handle 1280 x 720p, but that again defeats the purpose of buying a camcorder with much higher quality output.
Even more unfortunately, I simply do not know of any other consumer-level software which can handle it, apart from the very limited software which Panasonic includes with the camera. There may well be such a package out there, but I don't know about it as yet.
I have also asked Corel very directly when they are going to either produce a patch or a package to handle 50/60p video, but they have not been able to give me any firm date. I thus encourage owners of such cameras to complain directly to Corel, just so they can't claim there aren't enough users out there to make an effort on their part worthwhile!

Re: YAWN - heard the one about....
In my case, VSX3 accepts and edits the 50 p footage from my TM700. The output file however is a 50i file which is being reconstructed from one frame out of every other frame. This is equivalent to 25p recording with a 180 degree angle. So there is the known "filmlike" judder on fast moving image parts. I tested several editing programs including the new Edius6 which was annaounced to be 50p compatible...yes but only 1280x720p! (I reported this issue as "Dree" in http://ediusforum.grassvalley.com/forum ... p?p=128770) It is being told that Vegas 10 Pro (I only had Vegas 9) would handle 1080p50. The format is not comaptible with BD nor with AVCHD but I would love 1080p50 for my mediaplayer which shows very good video with 1080p50 AVC/H264 files straight from my camcorder, or "edited" bij Pana's HDwriter..
