Replacing title in storyboard

Post by trixie1 »

How do you replace titles in the midst of your project? I've tried to drag a different title from the title library onto the existing one in the storyboard, but it won't let me. I've tried to create a new title at the end of the storyboard and drag it into the replacement position on the storyboard, but it won't let me. The Corel User Guide does not approach the subject, nor have I found anything online.

Hello and welcome to the forum

So that we do not go off down the wrong track can you first tell us exactly which version of VideoStudio you are using.

Could you also confirm what you mean by storyboard - do you mean the row of boxes each showing one image of a complete clip - or do you mean the 'timeline' - a continuous view of the full length of each clip/image/title.

It is very easy to change titles in a project and once we know what you are doing I'm sure we can quickly put you straight.

I am using Pro X3 (just rec'd. as Christmas gift). When I say storyboard, I do mean the timeline where it shows all the parts of the movie. I just started using this, so forgive me for being a newbie. I search the forum first, but some of the questions and answers do not apply or are way over my head with techo lingo. I have other questions too, but I'll post them separately if that works better.

And could you also tell us how you inserted titles in the timeline in the first place? I suspect you simply placed something -- a video clip or image -- into the main timeline. But you might have done it in a perhaps easier way and actually used the title track which is a couple of tracks below the top timeline and has a big T to its left...

In creating the movie from a recent vacation I first inserted a photo or video clip onto the first line of the "Timeline". If I required a title for a particular photo/video, I clicked on the "T" for the library and selected the style of text I wanted to drag onto the "Timeline" "T" line (you call it the Title Track - the easier way). I made my preferences for font, color, etc. Throughout the entire movie I added photos, videos, overlays, audio, etc. After previewing the entire movie, I decided to change the style of a title in the middle of the "Title Track" line. Right clicking on the title did not bring up any selection to replace it with a different style like can be done with a photo. Again, remember I am just learning. I hope this helps you determine the steps I went through.

I have a terrific movie ready to put onto DVD for the others on the vacation. Movie Factory 7SE crashes everytime I try to make the DVD. So I tried a different program AVS 4 U Video Editor - it made the DVD just fine, but a few of the songs skip or cut out - I've only just begun with problems as I read the forum questions. So long as the people want to come to my house and watch the movie on my computer, it works just great - kind of inconvenient for those living 2,000 miles away.....

If you're wanting to change the wording in your text, select it in the title track, then double-click on it in the preview window. You can then highlight the text and delete it, or just type in your new text. This will keep all the attributes (effects) that were applied to it. If you're not concerned with keeping the effects, once the title/text is selected in the title track, press delete to remove it, and start over with a new one.

Maybe I'm not making myself clear. I don't want to keep the same style of the title. I want to choose a different one from the library of title styles. If I delete it from the "Timeline", then I can't re-insert a replacement in the same position. I've tried to go to the end of the "Timeline" in the Text Track and enter a title with all the parameters I choose. But, when I try to drag that new title over to the original position, I can't do it. I get the zero with the line through it saying "No Can Do". If I put it this way: On the timeline, at position 5 minutes and 34 seconds I have a title on the Title Track that runs for 22 seconds. The entire movie is 48 minutes and 42 seconds long with all the other photos, audio, etc. After viewing the movie, I see the title at 5:34 and I want to delete it and put in a different one, not just the words in the title, but the style from the library. I don't want the style to be a flash on and flash off, but a scroll up so you can read the words as they go up - that's what I call style. How do I do that?

When you drag a new title down from the library VideoStudio will only allow you to put it in one of the title ('T') tracks - you cannot put it in any other track - also you cannot put a new title on top of an existing one you need to delete the old one first - now to be clear - are you saying that you cannot drag and drop a new title into one of the 'T' lines anywhere.

Also - once you have a title in your video you can change it any way you like - the ones in the library are just starting points - you can add as many of your own as you wish later if you want to - if you want to change an existing title , click on the text box for it in the title (T) track - then double click on the text in the preview window - the edit panel above the right hand end of the timeline will then become available to you where you can change the font face or it's colour or apply shadows borders etc. - Above the right end of that edit panel you will see a tab called 'Animation' click on that - the panel opens and this is where you change how the text scrolls/arrives/moves/fadesin/fades out etc. etc. first make sure that the 'Apply Animation' box in that panel is checked then by using the drop down (Type) and the previews choose the animation that makes the text do what YOU want. you can completely change what you have into anything at all - when yoou have made it drag and drop that title back up into the Title library and it will allways be available to you in this and other projects.

If you want to move or distort the text you have only click on the text in the preview window once after you have selected the block in the 'T' line then you will be able to move the text 'en bloc' or rotate or distort it. - experiment by moving the various coloured 'blobs' around the text
