I'm helping a friend out with some video editing.
She uses a Mac and normally edits her video using the iMovie that comes with the Mac.
She's given me her video in an unusual format... xxxxx.dv
I'm not familiar with the .dv format. They are rather large files for such short clips. VSx2 doesn't recognise them but they play fine in Quicktime player. When she told me she has them in a .dv format I thought she meant dv-AVI...or maybe dv in a mov container
I'm going to have to convert them which I should be able to using a third party program but I was wondering is this is one of those format's like VOB that I could simply re-name to .mpg and everything would be fine.
Does anyone know about the format?

.dv is in fact DV/AVI but with Mac tags. As you have already found, VS will not accept it, and simply changing the extension to .avi also does not work. The only time I have ever had to use these files, I in fact used Quicktime Pro to convert them -- though from memory, I can't say I was overly thrilled by the converted file.

Please see my old reply to a posting at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 53#p158153.
The MPEG streamclip program from Squared5 http://www.squared5.com/ will do the job for you! Must've slipped Ken B's fantastic memory...
