Paintshop Pro X3 won't embed in Window live

Post by Peter Monsarrat »

Corel Paintshop Pro X3 will not embed photos in Windows Live Email 2011 running under Windows 7 Pro installed on a Gateway DX4840 x64-based PC.

When asked to email photos Corel responds with a message that there is no email program installed or if there is one to create an association in the Default Programs control panel. Windows Live is associated in the default control panel.

When that message is clicked Corel presents an email panel with embedding not available and attachments selected. When ok is selected Corel again presents the same no email message and when ok is again selected...

Corel brings up Windows Live Email with the photo(s) as a Sky Drive photo album.

I have tried Monzilla Firefox browser and Monzilla thunderbird email with no different outcome.

Any ideas, suggestions or workarounds?

Yeah....no answers. We had a similar discussion with a person using Outlook. Of course in his case Paint Shop Pro was trying to install something. After hitting cancel the email dialog popped right up but again only with Attachment set.

It still works, right? Just has annoying popups? As far as I know there isn't a "fix" for this. Or a good workaround. I've gone through all of the registry data and all of the settings for the MAPI protocol which Paint Shop Pro uses are all set properly and these dialogs still come up.

Sorry, it does not work. After the annoying messages it will only attach photos. The recipient has to download a program to view them. The program refuses to embed photos which is what I would really prefer. I email to family who only use email and are not about to download any programs as they are sure such a thing would bring some kind of disaster. Additionally embedded photos give you the opportunity to add cantonst. I have taken this problem up with Microsoft who gave me the following answer,

“ Programs look in different places to find the default mail client. WLMail is not good at advertising itself, so even though it is set as your default mail client, some applications might not find it, as you've discovered. You would be better off asking in forums dedicated to PSP or Corel, or checking their help pages. It would be best if you can get hold of their tech support and ask straight out where the program looks to find the mail client to use; the answer will probably be a registry key. Then come back here and tell us the answer, so we can tell you how to make it possible for the program to find the data it needs. “

Can you supply me with the information they have asked for?

:?: Why would they need to download a program to view images? They would have to download the pictures, true enough, but not a separate program. At least, that is, not so long as you're attaching actual JPEGs or PNGs. If you're sending a PSPImage file then sure I could see that, but regular JPEGs should not require a separate program to view once downloaded. Most computers come with a default photo viewer already installed and ready to use.

But I understand the desire to use captions.....sort of.

Corel Paintshop is not attaching the pictures. While the pop up says attachment what it actually does is to send the photo into Window's Sky Drive (please see my original post) which is an online data base that maintains the photos for a month or so and provides the email recipient with a link to the photos as a slide show. I am told that in order to view them Sky Drive insists that you down load their viewer.
