Hello, when I try to preview my project, I do not get any video. I can hear the audio though. When I preview individual clips I have both audio and video. Please tell me how to resolve this problem.
Thanks!

Re: No Video when Playing Project - Version 10
First thing I would check is that File>Preferences>Instant Playback Target is set for Preview Window.

Re: No Video when Playing Project - Version 10
Describe your problem: In the Edit tab, when I am in Project mode and playback the entire project, I can hear audio but cannot see video in the preview window. When I am in Clip mode, I can see both audio and video.
Properties of your source files, including video, audio, image files (format, file size, where did you get it?): I captured my source files directly from an 8mm camcorder using Easycap.
The clips are: AVI files--Open DML. 7Gb, 30.34 frames/sec, 461 sec, data rate 9269 kbps, Video compression: AVI Decompressor, Attributes: 16 bits, 640 X 480, total frames 14,012, Audio Compression: PCM, Attributes: 48kHz, 16 bit, stereo, Total Samples: 22,200,000 Samples.
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: The 8mm camcorder is a Sharp VL-AH151 Hi8 Viewcam, with a connector in the Audio/Video Out to the EasyCap Yellow and White connectors. The EasyCap is connected to my USB port.
Project Properties (important): Filename E:\Susan\Videos\1993\Cody at Disney World\1993 Disney.VSP. File size 83.5K, Version 10.0, Duration 00:27:04:09. Project Template Properties: Edit File Format: Microsoft AVI Files, NTSC non-drop frame (30 fps)

Uncompressed
Interleave audio for every 15 frames
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): I want to output to DVD but haven't reached this step yet...
Output Properties (cogwheel in lower left of burn screen): Not yet to this step.
PAL or NTSC: NTSC
Error Codes (if any): None
Product Version: e.g. VS10, VS11+, VS X3 Pro, DVD MovieFactory, DVD Factory 2010, ect.. Ulead Videostudio 10.0.0110.0 SE DVD

Re: No Video when Playing Project - Version 10
Unfortunately, we have had a continuing spate of problems reported in recent weeks by others who have bought this cheap EasyCap device. They have problems similar to yours. Please see the topmost sticky post at the head of this forum: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 30#p211330 Sadly there is not much good news for you there except to throw away the device and buy something which really works.
There are also some strange things about the various sets of properties you posted. Did you set any of them or did you just accept defaults?
First off, if you are intending to burn a DVD, it would make sense to capture in the DVD format which is mpeg-2, usually with a frame size of 720 x 480 if you are in NTSC land or 720 x 576 if you are PAL. A bitrate of 6000 kbps is more than sufficient to maintain quality from an analogue capture such as you are doing. Set it to Upper Field First, and keep the (L)PCM audio which is already set. Use these same properties as the Project settings.
Next, you need to be aware that the frame sizes you are using are simply not compatible with NTSC DVDs. 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 are not found in any of the possible DVD specifications. If you use that size and later want to burn a DVD, then Video Studio will have to invent 80 horizontal pixels out of thin air, and it does this by simply duplicating some of the existing ones. This inevitably leads to lower quality end video.
If you do decide to throw away your EasyCap and buy a proper device, and if you have the money, then I'd go for something which would capture in DV format using Firewire, which gives the best quality and is the easiest to edit. Later, after editing, you can easily convert it to DVD-standard mpeg-2. However, such devices are quite expensive. A cheaper alternative would be to use a digital DV camcorder, if you have one, which allows itself to be used as a passthrough device. In other words, your Sharp would be connected to the mini DV camcorder by similar RCA plugs at the Sharp end and a 3mm plug at the mini DV camcorder end. Then the mini DV is connected to your computer via Firewire. This will definitely give you the best quality possible for analogue captures, and if you already have such a mini DV camcorder, saves you money and a lot of grief too!!

Ah, as you can tell, I am a Newby!
I have a mini dv camcorder so I will use your suggestion.
I'll recapture my videos in the proper format and research a bit more.
Thank you!

First, check your mini DV camera manual to make sure it allows passthrough. Also check to make sure your computer has a DV card. And of course you will need a Firewire cable -- 4 pin small plug at the camcorder end, 6 pin for the computer end. And it your computer doesn't have Firewire, then have a Firewire card installed. They are very cheap these days and usually come with a cable.

Re: No Video when Playing Project - Version 10
I had this exact same problem (VS X4), sound would play on the clip ok, but not on the project. It probably happened after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
Initial testing shows that by ticking "Enable 5.1 Surround" from the settings menu drop down has fixed my problem as detailed here.

I haven't created my project yet though, hope its fixed there also.
