I am new to Paintshop pro.i have used photoexpress 6 without any problems but I wanted to get a better software so i tried Pint shop, but it seems so difficult.
I have figured out how to crop to selection and put text in but I want it to go along the path of the circle that I cropped the picture to. I tried all of the suggestions in the learning mode but can't seem to get it to work. All it does is angle the entire phrase but not along the curve of the circle.
I want to place text on the top and bottom of the picture and curve it along the path of the circle.
if anyone can give me any help, I would great appreciate it.
Thanks.

Re: Text to fit a path of a circle crop selection
I'm not sure where the Crop selection comes into play but text on a curve is simple.
I always recommend Michele's tutorial on this as a beginning point : http://www.michelespaintshop.com/psp-text-on-curve.php
I think that should give you all of the information you want but just to be sure do you have a more specific idea of what you're looking at? I'm sure others here can jump right in and give you any number of options but I am often confused unless I know exactly what you're going for.
Adding text to a curve in general is very easy. First use the Ellipse tool to place a vector (make sure under the "Create As:" drop down box it says "vector" because it needs to be a vector) of the circle you want the text to follow.
Then grab your text tool and click right on the circle. (You'll notice the Text tool cursor changes to an A on a curve) Now as you type the text will follow the curve. Interesting to note, on the tool options toolbar you'll see an option for Warp Text. When this is turned on the text gets distorted along the curve, when it's off the text just follows the angle of the curve. You can see this in my second text tool tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOHuBEDe5IY
Otherwise I think Michele's tutorial is a lot more effective for what you're looking at.

Re: Text to fit a path of a circle crop selection
You didn't say in which version of PSP you want to do this.
This quick method is for PSPX2.:
1. Hit Q on the keyboard and draw the circle).
2. Text Tool, line it up on the circle until the A has a semi-circle under it.
3. Write your text.
4. In the Layers Palette, click on visibility eye of
the layer containing the vector circle, to make it
invisible.
5. Merge visible or Merge All.
If for some reason the text is still straight (meaning you missed the circle), you can hit K on the keyboard for the Pick Tool, hold the Shift key down >put the pointer on the circle until it turns into a + with a small arrow-in-a-box underneath.
This means both text and cicle have been selected. Then right-click and select>Fit text to Path.

Re: Text to fit a path of a circle crop selection
Thank you for your responses but I still can't get it. Michelle's tutorial is using PSP X2 and she is doing it with a colored elliptical, not a picture.
I am using PSP X3.
This is what I did and what I'm looking for:
I took a picture of mine and using the selection tool, I cropped it into a new window by using the Crop to selection in the Image drop down menu. Now I want to place some text in the circle of the picture I just cropped along the top and bottom.
I can place the text in using the text tool but I can't get it to curve around the top and bottom of the circle.
I hope this explains my needs a little better.
Please help if you can.
Thanks.

"I am using PSP X3".
Hi Sim74,
Thanks for saying which version you are using.
Cropping (any shape) and placing text on a vector path are two very different things, so it's best to just concentrate on the vector text so as to avoid confusion
I hope someone who uses X3 can assist.
The text tool in X3 has not received universal acclaim.
It's one of the reasons I didn't upgrade from X2.
I have since read somewhere that you can revert to using the old textbox, but don't know how to do that.
I have done an extensive search, but can't locate the original post. I will keep looking.
If anyone knows how to do this, please help Sim74 out here
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Joelle

Re: Text to fit a path of a circle crop selection
Sim74, I know you don't know me but I wouldn't carelessly give you a tutorial on a method that doesn't work between versions. X2 or X3 it doesn't matter it even works between older versions.
My tutorial that I posted uses X3. The only difference between the two is that one has the textbox the other one doesn't. Well there is another difference but it's not important to this method. This method, in fact, has been around for quite a few versions. So don't let that worry you.
As Joelle said a picture and vectors are completely different. Text, by default, is a vector. You can turn it into a raster but then you need to use deformation tools and drag the edges around distorting everything. It's a mess. Using vectors to distort the text is a lot easier.
But if you watch Michele's tutorial closely you gain a lot of information. For example it shows you how to add the text to an elliptical, it then shows you the vectors inside the layers palette. If you look closely you can see that each vector has a little "eye" icon next to it. This sets whether the vector is visible or not. By clicking this on the ellipse you can make it disappear leaving only the text.
So what you need to do is make an ellipse the same size and look as your circle in the image. Add the text. Then hid the ellipse.
I know it's probably not necessary but here's a tutorial on the Ellipse tool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2011ZSqOYU
Michele also points out something very important about getting the text on both the top and bottom of the ellipse. You have to copy the text to its own layer, just as she does, before doing the bottom text. Because reversing the contour of the ellipse will also effect the text if it isn't handled properly.
So I would watch her tutorial again, as it is relevant to X3 as well, and learn the procedure for getting text to the top and bottom of the ellipse then all you have to do is hide the ellipse. And your problem should be solved.
To answer Joelle's comment on the Textbox in X3. If you want to get the text box that you've seen in Michele's tutorials hold down the Shift key when you click. I explain that at the beginning of my text tool tutorial part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBMt3zQDJa8

Aha, that's easy, thanks.
I still won't upgrade though
Nice video!

Re: Text to fit a path of a circle crop selection
Hello sim74,
It appears that you want to know how to place or fit a text to a path or object using PaintShop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate. I did create a similar tutorial a couple of years ago. The steps is for PSP X2 but you can still apply it if you are using PSP X1 or PSP X3.
Here's the tutorial: http://abielonline.blogspot.com/2009/07 ... th-or.html
