Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
Hi, I just want to warn that the SP2 patch of VS Pro X3 is incompatible with rendering and playback of mpeg-2 files. Your mpeg-2 files will finish rendering with SP2, but the rendered file will have audio distortions. Corel has a patch to repair it (only send to someone who calls Corel & complain about mpeg-2 render problems), but the patch causes a hiccup in the preview playback of the mpeg-2 clip just after the rendering is finished. The result only plays smooth after pause and starting of the playback from beginning again.

Strange that no one else had reported any problems. I have had all patches in for some time, and have detected no problems... In fact, just did a DVD yesterday, which was fine...

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
If I may ask: Do you have the downloaded version of X3 version 13.6.2.36? Do you have a 64-bit Win 7? And working with Mpeg-2 right from start?Ken Berry wrote:Strange that no one else had reported any problems. I have had all patches in for some time, and have detected no problems... Anyway, this is just my experience that every time I patched X3 to SP2, the distortions starts. And not with every frame. It's possible that not everyone detects the same problem, because they doesn't have the same versions with the patches installed thereafter? but it's real otherwise Corel wouldn't have a patch for it by now. It took me up to a month to find that it's my Corel installation causing the problems and not Windows or some hardware faults. By the way, the time stamp of the said Corel patch is 24 January 2011...
My post is just related to someone having the same type of problems. At least then they will know what is the possible cause and what to do about it.

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
I have the downloaded version, updated to 13.6.2.69 which is later than yours, having most recently added SP3 (disguised under the SP2 label). And as indicated in my profile, my Win 7 is 32 bit. And yes, I have used mpeg-2 -- and almost exclusively mpeg-2 -- right from the start, well before any updates ever appeared. Successive updates have not affected VS's performance with mpeg-2s.
I take your point, however, about the problem existing and Corel's development of a patch. It's equally curious, however, and personally a little annoying that Corel did not see fit to let us Admin people and Moderators into the 'secret' that such a patch existed...!
And why keep it secret anyway? Why not just list it among their other updates and patches? (This is not directed against you but against Corel!)

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
Thanks for your help! The patch appears to have resolved all of our problems with Ulead Video Studio X3.
We had spent over a week trying to debug this problem:
· We experienced the problem on Windows XP, and Vista.
· We experienced the problem on five different computers with different hardware configurations.
· We tried several different codec packs including No Codec Packs, Windows XP Codec Pack, K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, and VLC
· We uninstalled Ulead Video Studio X3 SP2 and reinstalled without a service pack and with service pack 1 and the problem persisted.
· We used our Ulead Video Studio 11 on the same machines as Ulead Video Studio X3 and still had the same problem.
The problem occurred in several uses of Ulead Video Studio X3 including:
-Importing files from a Cannon FS100 DV camera to MPEG-2 and rendering to anything (produced glitches & out of sync video).
-Importing a DVD into MPEG-2 and rendering to WMV (produced sound glitches, artifacts).
-Capturing Live Video into MPEG-2 using a capture card and rendering to WMV (produced sound glitches, artifacts).
The problem appeared both in the edit phase as well as the rendered product.
The Hotfix provided by Corel technical support fixed all occurences of the problem.

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
None has been posted, and Corel hasn't seen fit to provide the Moderators or Admin staff with one either. It seems you have to contact tech support and specifically ask for it, which seems very strange to me... Why not just post it on the Corel website with other patches, and have done with it?

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
Should I make the hotfix available for download on my domain & post the link? I don't mind do it, it's not a big file.

While I don't speak for Corel, being a user just like you, I think that would be a useful idea. Thank you.

Okay, here is the link: http://www.heesenproductions.co.za/Down ... SK3329.exe
It is a 6mb file. Hope it is a help for someone. I am going to leave it on my server for a month, thereafter I will upload it again if someone asks.

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, when I downloaded the file, my Nortons 360 said there were many indications that it was a threat (calling it a 'Network Indicator'), and promptly removed it!
I will try again later, temporarily disabling Nortons.

Re: Caution: MPEG-2 videos & VS Pro X3 SP2 patch
And I can assure you I didn't think it was! What surprised me was that Nortons did not even give me the choice. It simply removed it -- no question of being put into quarantine from which I could retrieve it!... Thanks again. I don't need it, thankfully, but it is handy to have on hand in case other users need it and for some reason don't or won't contact Support...

Well try the patch (which came from Corel) at the link posted above... It's the same post they would send you if they replied...
