movie factory has stopped working

Post by photophoto »

I've updated all files. I can't install new updates because MovieFactory 7 SE came with VideoStudio Pro X3, and will not allow me to install patches without upgrading. I'm trying to burn a Blu-Ray video I've created in VideoStudio Pro X3 in DVD MovieFactory 7 SE onto a BD-R, but it stops at 33% complete at "Prepare output content" during the burn process. I've left it running overnight, and it hasn't changed. I've tried shutting down background programs (antivirus, updaters, etc.) and I'm getting the same result. I've also tried making Blu-Ray folders to burn on another program and that hasn't worked either. If I delete the temp files in the TmpMenuSource folder (Documents>Corel DVD MovieFactory>DMF_TEMP>BURN_TEMP) will I lose my project settings? If I delete the temp files will it fix it?

Unfortunately, we simply do not have enough information to be able to make even a reasonable guess at a solution. We have no idea, for instance what your original video format is, and what kind of camcorder or other device was used to film it.

Please have a look at this sticky post at the top of this forum -- it is called, indicatively, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=41454#p41454 Then get back to us with the information requested and hopefully someone will be able to help.

Hello Photophoto,

May I know what do you mean by "can't install new updates because MovieFactory 7 SE came with VideoStudio Pro X3"? Because MovieFactory 7 SE was made available to VS X3 users as an update. As far as I know there is no problem in download all the other updates even if you have MovieFactory 7 SE. You may want to manually download the updates for VideoStudio Pro X3 from http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 0460544373

Ariel -- I think he means he can't install updates to MF7 because it is an SE edition; and to do so would require him to upgrade MF 7 SE to MF 7 Pro. At least that's the way I read it. And of course, SE editions don't accept updates.

The original files came from my Sony digital still camera. They are in .MP4 format and are 1280x720 @ 29.97fps. I transferred them to my computer from memory card in a USB reader. After creating a project in VideoStudio Pro X3, I loaded all the clips into the timeline, added chapter markers, and saved the project as a .VSP, I exported the project as a video file using the Create Video File in the Share tab, saving it in the same folder as the clips and .VSP file. The setting I used is Blu-ray NTSC MPEG2 (1920x1080).The resulting file is 12.8 GB in size and in the .mpg format. After installing MovieFactory 7 SE, I created a New project and chose the Blu-ray option. Here are the Project settings:

Project Type: Blu-ray Standard

MPEG files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 25000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

"Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is checked and the next 5 boxes are unchecked. The Clip playback option is set to "Continue to play the next clip"

I used the "Auto add chapters" option as I noticed that the chapters weren't transferred from VSP Pro X3.

I only changed the Title in the Main Menu option under the Menu & Preview tab.

The burner I'm using is the Pioneer BDR-206BK internal drive and the media is Kodak BD-R 4x 25GB.

The problem I'm having occurs in the Output tab:
As far as the burn settings go, Create to Disc and Archive images of slideshows is checked. Under Burning Options, the drive is selected to the E:/ for the Pioneer drive, Speed is set at Maximum, Project file is checked, and Buffer underrun protection is checked. After the Burn button is clicked, it will stop at 33% complete at "Prepare output content" and will display the error "Corel DVD MovieFactory has stopped working" after minute or two. I checked the BD-R disc and it is still blank. I hope this is sufficient information to work on...

UPDATE:

I recently downloaded and installed driver updates for my computer (LAN, display, audio, and chipset). I was able to burn a Blu-ray video disc through DVD MovieFactory 7 SE (keeping the same settings as mentioned in my previous post). However, I tried to playback the disc on my Blu-ray player, and it gave me the "Cannot operate this disc" error message.
