Wierd green line below video while playing

Post by Grey »

Hello,

I'm using the 30 day trial version of DVD Factory 7. The first DVD I created came out fine except for one odd artifact; When playing the DVD there is a small green line at the bottom of the screen. It looks a bit like a loading bar except it runs the entire width of the bottom screen. What do you think caused this and how can I avoid it in the future? I don't really fancy bright green lines at the bottom of the screen while watching movies.

On another note...It seems like the program is getting slower the more I use it. I haven't loaded any new software or drivers, nothing to effect the program. What could be going on here?

Thank you,

-grey.

Welcome to the forums!

What was the source of your video? If it was converted from analogue video, the green line is a common artifact, and the only way to get rid of it would be to crop the video a little in a video editor. I'm not sure you can crop in MF.

As far as slowing down is concerned, that would be a new one for me...

Hello Grey,

There are alot of reason why you have that green bar, does it appear when you preview the video using DVD Movie Factory 7 or is it also in the original video file? You may also want to post the properties of your project, so we can have a better understanding on what is going on with the video and your software.

Hello,

Thank you for the welcome (speaking to both of you in this post).

No, it never appeared in the preview while creating the video nor was it visible in the original file. It appeared post-production.

Project properties are the default properties though I did use a custom bit-rate.

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 3850 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I originally tried DF7 on a Vista-based system and the program locked up completely after making a few DVD's (weird huh?). I needed to upgrade my OS so I switched to Windows 7 (which I know isn't supported yet) and reinstalled DF7. Since then (about four days ago) the program seems to be slowing down. It takes longer to preview the menu, soon, if the problem takes on the same form like it did in Vista 64, everything else will slow down and eventually lock up altogether, to the point that DF7 won't work at all.

Right now though I'm more concerned with the green bar at the bottom of the screen. I don't want it to happen again. Hopefully you guys can help me fix this problem and hopefully the program will not mysteriously stop working in the very near future.

Thanks again,

-Grey.

I did forget a few minor details guys,

When I preview my menu it now takes 3 1/2 minutes until the menu loads. It used to be instantaneous. Same thing when returning to the editing atmosphere from the menu preview, though not three minutes long, more like 10 or 12 seconds, which also used to be instant. I'm also experiencing some pixelation in the video preview window. The original file has no pixelation whatsoever. If I play the original file in VLC or Windows Media player there is no pixelation.

I am now just a little confused. You keep using this 'DF 7' which obviously in your mind is equivalent to the original 'DVD Factory 7' you initially mentioned. I assumed, from the forum you posted it in -- which is Movie Factory (whose most recent version is indeed 7) -- that you were talking about MF 7 (which is how we all here refer to it). The problem is that there is another very klutzy program, also from Corel, called DVD Factory, though it is more properly called DVD Factory 2010. However, it is so awful, and no one has used it long enough, for it to have initials -- though logically that could be DF...

So could you please clarify exactly which program you are using once again... The thing is that some of the last things you mentioned sound an awful lot like DVD Factory 2010...
