Error - MP4 HD

Post by froggy_doddy21 »

Hello,

I'm having a hard time creating MP4 HD files. It's always gone well, but recently it seems that I get to around 99% rendering, and then it crashes. I get the message "The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning"

I'm running an older dual core intel T2080 CPU with Vista, nothing fancy. It seems to happen with videos that are around an hour and a half. If I keep my videos to around an hour it will complete the rendering process. I am able to see the final 8GB file that was created, but it won't play as the rendering wasn't 100% finished with the longer video. This whole thing happens on different PC's so it's not my program installation.

Any suggestions?

What format are you converting from? .Most of the time it's a "from" problem, rather than a "to" problem.
It's always gone well...
Are these files from the same camera that you've used in the past?

It would also be useful to know why you have specifically chosen mp4 as your output format, as opposed to, say, AVCHD or even .mov with HD settings and using the MPEG-4 Visual codec.

1) My source video is 1080i video from my Sony HDV camcorder. Mpeg format (sorry I can't be more precise)

2) Yes, the files that I've successfully converted in the past were from the same camera and output to the same file format. It really seems to crash only when the rendered video is too long.

3) The only reason I use MP4 - HD is because I tested all the different HD types VSX3 offers and It's the only one I had good results with (until recently). I can't remember exactly what the problem was with using AVCHD. I think it was a playback issue. Playback was very choppy. Maybe I'll try again and see what happens.

If your camera is indeed a HDV model, you should output in HDV. It is an easy format and much easier to edit and output in than the HD mpeg-4 formats. HDV is of course HD mpeg-2, and I use and produce it all the time from my own Canon HV-20. Essentially, it has only one set of properties, so you can't go wrong there.

What is the model number of the camera, just to be absolutely sure what its format is? Samsung's mpeg-4 range of HD cameras does not use AVCHD unlike most camera manufacturers, and the variant of codec they apparently use seems to cause problems for some users.

You also don't tell us anything about your computer specifications. More often than not, when users post problems here, we need to know something about their computer architecture as this is often pertinent to their problems. This is why we include questions about your computer in the registration process. Those details then appear in your profile, so you don't have to repeat them in future if you have further problems. You can fill them in now if you like by clicking on the 'User Control Panel' button in the top left of screen and choosing the Profile tab.
