Importing from Digital Media

Post by ellis2roam »

First let me apologize if this has been covered in previous posts but my search did not find anything.

I am trying to capture video from our camcorder dvd (Canon DC210). When we use VS11, it gives us the option of importing each title (time splitting) or all as one title. I can not find out how to do the same thing with VS X3, it only gives us the single title, all clips joined as one.

Any help will be appreciated. :D

I think that is correct. I seem to recall trying to import with X3 and I reverted to using v10 because I only wanted to import one chapter.

So my advice is to use your v11 to import/capture, then use X3 to edit.

Hi

Using X3 I have used the Insert the Digital Media option from a DVD having 12 titles.
The disc does not contain Chapters.

All 12 titles are displayed and available to Import.

I do not know if X3 will allow you to Import individual Chapters.

Terry---Can you confirm that when using VS 11 that the options are for Titles or Chapters.

Thanks Jeff and Trevor. We just tried your suggestion Trevor but VS X3 still brings the video in as one file. When using VS11, we can select the title check box for the whole clip or just each chapter check boxes for individual clips. VS X3 seems to be taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back! I'd rather not hang onto VS11 but it looks like I'm forced to just to import the clips from our camcorder! I wonder if the developers at Corel use their own stuff! In my simple mind, it should be easy to bring a module like importing over from one s/w package to another!

Thanks again for your quick replies.

Terry

It seems apparent to me that most video editing app developers (and not just Corel) are not video editors!

Hi

I did a search on my pc for d3dx9_36.dll

The files product name shows as Microsoft Direct X for Windows.

Manually updating Direct X has been known to cure some strange issues with Video Studio. It is a standard recommendation by this forum.
There is a post at the top of this forum regarding Direct X , contains a link to Direct X

The latest version as far as I know is June 2010
The installation is in three parts.
Download, Extract files, Install by running DXSETUP.exe

Thanks to all trying to help. I down loaded the latest DirectX and installed it but no difference. However, I did find that if I use VS Express 2010 which I found under the 'Tools' Menu, it works similar to VS11 albeit a bit clunky. We will have to bring each Chapter in separately and then go back to Express for another Chapter. We're hoping all the glitzy tools in VS X3 is worth the aggravation we are having with the Capture function. :!:

Thanks again,
Terry

Hi Terry

As Jeff said in his first reply.

“So my advice is to use your v11 to import/capture, then use X3 to edit”.

Is there a problem using VS11?

...not the way it should work? ...not perfect? Yeah, you're preaching to the choir. That's what work-arounds are for.

Hi Terry

My reference to using VS 11 was in preference to Express 2010

I agree that X3 should give the option to import Chapters as well as Titles.
Terry you’re not on your own, I find it very frustrating when the latest software doesn’t perform as well as older versions.
We can only advise on what we think are the best options.

Having said that the editing features are very good.
Hopefully the problems with X3 will be sorted in the next version. (I’m not holding my breath)

Let's hope that someone other than users will see the light! It would be nice to have a 'complete' s/w package.

And that's where the problem lies. What's complete for you may not be for me. I don't think there is such an animal as a complete video editing/authoring package. Even the big boys aren't perfect.
