Trevor,
For the above example I used photos (jpeg) and a SmartSound track. Oddly the audio would play if I used the High Quality playback. I also noticed that I could not preview in Project Mode. For that I would get this error:
I found a couple of other anomalies. I re-installed to see if that would correct the audio and playback issues, which it did not. In doing so the Share On-line was no longer there. Also when I re-installed, I first disabled UAC. This time, I got the Indeo Video installer, which did not happen the first time.
The audio problem is still there, with the exception of the sample audio files. The audio in video clips and SmartSound would not play. I'm surmising that VS8 has a problem using the most current DirectX drivers, for Windows Vista.
All this is more of a FWIW, for those that want to or need to run VS8 on Vista. It will run, however I've discovered the above faults. Some that might be correctable. However doing so might also jeopardize other applications.

Hi Ron
Sorry for the delay in replying……….
I ran a few more tests regarding VS8 Vista and audio.
The Indio installer booted up first time I installed, but took so long to complete that my patience got the better and I cancelled.
VS8 appeared to work ok till I tried the audio option, I’m seeing the same problems as you describe, down to the error message.
Like you I don’t think its worth my while to continue trying to fix this, as you say “However doing so might also jeopardize other applications.” I’m not willing to take that risk, VS 8 will be uninstalled.
I wonder just how much of the program picman2 has managed to use

Re: Video Studio 8 problem
Hi Guys,
My main use for VS 8 on Vista is portable use while travelling and I don't use sound in those particular videos so I never bothered to try that option at present.
My main concern was that if I could produce many of the videos while travelling it would save me a lot of time at home etc.
My music videos that I produce I do at home on my XP desktop. It would be good if Corel could rebadge the VS 8 and make it up to date for use with Vista though as it may be a basic program but it does what many of us need and its quick to use.
So many programs are overstated for what we need these days.

Re: Video Studio 8 problem
Why should Corel spend the time and money to rewrite code for a version that is 6 or 7 years old?

Re: Video Studio 8 problem
Besides being such an old program, it was a very buggy program. Look at all the patches that were released with it. I mean they had to release a patch for Daylight savings time. Ulead didn't do a very good job with this version. I know VSX3 has a lot of problems too, but at least it is compatible with the current operating systems. It is also cost prohibitive to take such an old program, pay programmers to write code for the current versions of operating systems, and the changes to hardware.

Re: Video Studio 8 problem
I downloaded the new version and couldn't even get it to work because it came up with .dll faults. Comes up with Fault: d3dx9_36.dll was not found.
If you have a fix I'll give it a try as long as it doesn't cause problems with my current program of vs 8. When I installed one of the supposed fixes for VSX3 I had to reinstall and fix my vs 8 version again as it caused a conflict.
Tried to install some fixes and they wouldn't work either. Wrote to tech and never got a response so I'll stick with what I have and know it works fine for me.
I wanted to buy the new VSX3 program but only if it works and that they can supply a disk that works problem free that I can use on both vista and xp.
I'll wait a while and hope that they can sorts things out and get it working problem free. At this stage I can't even test it out.
